help getting locking wheel nuts out

Car  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
ok, due to an event yesterday, i no longer have my locking wheel nut thing, but need to get them out, how would i go about getting them out?

Would be pretty hard to get them off without ruining the wheel nut - i'd advise going to local dealer an payin £27 for new ones

oh dear!!!

good luck, it took my mate a week to get his set of wheels off when he had the same problem. :(

Did you round the locking key, or lose it? Because when I rounded mine, I got myself a socket, hammered it on, took it down the the fabrications place in stafford and they welded it together for me for free.

we think it has been lost or at 2lives, hes going to look for it tonight.

nothing seems to be going right with it atm, but hey at least my susoension is kinda set up now

lol.....i blame that youth that was messin about with it n throwin the wheelbrace all round the street ;).............i did tel him to tighten the nuts.......twice. ;)

had a quick look las nite.cant see it anywhere......will have another look in a bit now its light......u remember jon sayin it caught the zorst......where did it catch..this mite be the locker comin off the wheelnut.

If it is the 'star' shaped locking nut; Find a strong socket (you'll prob need 4 of the same size) which fits into locking nut and hammer the socket in untill it stops, now use the hammered in socket to undo the lock nut. Halfrauds / Srewfix (£20 ish) do a socket which bites into outside of the locknut with a reverse thread (I think they req an air ratchet to work).
Just remember to have 4 new nuts to replace the old ones b4 you start.

Failing that you'll end up having to either drill them out or split them with a cold chisel risking damage to your wheels and Some companies will want £200 for this. I'd phone a few tyre fitters and see if they will remove them (but have 4 nuts spare incase they wreck em) Other places will charge anything from £0-70 depending on their persuasion.

taylor - there is a code in the McGaurd locking nut box - if you call them up they can supply you with another key!

cheers joe.
my god everything seems to be going wrong with it atm lol

suspension
exhaust
wheel nuts
warning lights
drive shafts
hahah

its all getting sorted now though :D
wooo finally.

engine mounts yeh, gearbox is a non issue when comparing the two though!

running costs on this are cheaper so far... by a huge margin! lol

std for std a Willy is the better car easily imo, just running costs are greater

Give the wires a wiggle under the drivers seat and the Serv/airbag light goes off. Did it once in a blue moon for me but if you've lowered it more it may become more frequent so you may want to replace the naff Renault wire connectors that cause the current change!

you can get a tool where you drill a hole into the item you want removing then screw this tool to it and slide the arm bak in it bags them off that might work think its called a slide hammer, or theres a tool for reversing thread nuts that should work as it turns the nut/bolt the opposite way there fore it should undo it! Both tools available from general diy stores ;)
