HELP! Handbrake Problem

  Ibiza FR
I was driving the other day, and heard quite a loud bang that seemed to come from the rear of the car. I came to a stop and the handbrake lever seemed to come up alot further than usual, but still worked fine.

Then this morning, I went out and pull off, and I could hear a creaking/rubbing noise from the back as if the handbrake was left on slightly, and when I applied the handbrake, the lever only came back up half as far as it had been after the bang.

Now I can drive it, but when driving at slow speeds the creaking is quite loud.

the handbrake light on the dash still goes on and off with the handbrake.

What would I need to do to solve the problem, is it a quick adjustment or a major problem?

Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

i'd take off the cover for the drums and have a peak, maybe somethings come loose? one of mine slipped slightly and made a terrible noise! the light is just related to the handle i believe not the actual brakes!

Dad asked a mate from work, and said that if it had been left after rain with handbrake on tight, then the pads may have stuck inside and just to drive it to loosen it off. worked a treat so all is fine now! just thought id post up incase anyone has a similar problem.
