HELP! handbrakes on the blink

hello hello,

while trying to reverse yesterday my clio suddenly went bang....and now the handbrake is stuck/ceasing to function and the rear wheels are locked. i had to drive the b*****d back to my house in 1st gear resulting in one giant skid mark, not sensible i know but i dont happen to own a tow truck. anyone know why the handbrake might have done this? i figured a snapped cable, but then why would the wheels be stuck on lock =/

any help would be appreciated

If its drums then its the shoes that are knackered what happend on my clio.

yep sounds like the brake shoes have gone

as above, definitaly brake shoes.... this happened to me over christmas.
