Help,i cut something!!

  172 , looking for a 4x4 !
Right heres the scene,i stripped my 172 to the hilt and there was a bunch of wires going down the passenger side of the dashboard.

With the engine running i cut each wire one by one and checked lights & indicators after each one with the engine still running.

Come the end of it the engine was still running,i turned it off but now it doesnt start, there is nothing there bar the hum of the fuel pump engaging.

I will admit to a tiny spark when i inadvertently touched the bare ends of two wires, all the fuses i could find in the engine bay were fine.

When i turn the ignition on the car does all its checks and the service light, stop light and battery light remain on.

Now the service light was on before i cut any wires due to me taking out the airbag ecu so ive ruled that out.

Are there any other fuses in the car anywhere as its dark and i can only find a handful by the battery?

Cheers

Liam

Laugh away,i know i screwed up but as far as i could see the wires went to the doors, and seatbelts,i didnt just cut wires for the sake of it!!

Ive joined them all back together before i posted so there:rasp:

Did you not think that the wires would do something? :S

A wire that went nowhere but into a plug which wasnt attached to anything !

The car started and ran fine with all these wires in one piece even though they went nowhere.

Where is the main fusebox on a 172???

  172
the wires go up to the sunroof and also connect up the clocl display so they do more than you realise, interior fusebox is passenger when you open door on side of dash

Yeah, that makes sense,i realised they were to the clock and sun visor lights but why would that affect the starting of the car?

I honestly think that i blew a fuse when the tiny short happened as i reconnected all the wires one by one.

I will check tomorrow and if its a fuse then i will replace it and disconnect all the wires one by one to see if the problem occurs again.

I just want to understand as im new to clios and plan to strip a few more!!

Cheers though.

Shouldn't be cutting random wires with the battery connected let alone with the ignition on and the engine running. Check the fuses first.

Did your remote key for car still operate the locking,i no early clio's have infa red locking/immobiliser receiver next to interior light. When water leaks in from duff aerials can affect this and wont allow locking to work along with disarming the immobiliser.same if you cut a wire giving it power.Could be!!!!!!!

Very cowboy leaving it powered & running :dead:

I would trace back the 2 wires you shorted out, doing it with out a wiring diagram, have fun!

LOL,i left it running just in case any wire would cut the engine out and i know which one as id just cut it,little did i know it wouldnt start after it!!!

I reckon its just a fuse though as all wires are joined again,i honestly didnt go all edward scissorhands on a bunch of wires,i did it all very slowly and methodically,i reckon if the snips hadnt have bridged 2 bare ends then all would have been ok,as i reckon it will be when ive pushed the car forward and checked the fuses.

Once ive got it going again im still cutting out all of those wires:rasp:

This thread is platinum.

Yeah and i am a diamond geezer:rasp::rasp:

Sorted it this morning in 30 seconds flat, twas just a fuse but next time i strip a clio i wont be cutting bugger all;)

Do clios have safety modes where the car will drive very slowly until reset??????
