Help me decide which coilovers please

Car  182
Hi guys i'm looking to fit a set of coilovers for my 172cup, fast road use only so ride quality is a concern, but not a massive one  as obviously i want the sharper handling. I'm not interested in "slamming" the car either

So far the only set i have come across is H&R's fitted to a 182, and that was just a passenger ride, but i did find the ride quality top drawer

I'm aware there are afew group buys going on, from what i have gathered AST's are the king of the hill with adjustability and the benefit of the rear spring/setup, but i can't see me needing the benefits of the extra outlay @ £1k fitted+setup

I understand H&R's are a similar price to the AST's but offer the best ride quality.....

Then you have the FK range, the konigsports, can anyone clue me up on the ride quality? And then theres the highsports which seem interesting with the fixed damping, especially @ the £375 in the group buy

I'm leaning towards the highsports, but i would like assurances from you more knowledgable folk first

Thanks in advance,

Craig

What is your budget?
H&R's have very good comfort and handle very well
AST's are slightly stiffer, and handle very well.

Price wise the AST's are a good price in the group buy.

If it was for track work either would be fine, but maybe AST's would edge it a little over H&R's.

Havent used the others so cant comment.

road car? H&R's mate

FK's aren't the best for ride (i have them on one of my cars)

AST's are good (albeit too hard at the front IMO) but alas £££

thanks for the replies guys keep 'em coming, looks like the FK's are out then and H&R's the way forward :)

Budget isn't really the issue, just wondering whether or not i would utilize the wider range of adjustability that the more expensive ones offer, road use only

I have the same car and have been looking at coilovers, for price and the fact I don't go on track the gaz coilovers from k tech look good and have ajustable dampers aswell for £511 Inc vat had a passanger ride in a ph1 172 and they seem quite good, for kw with ajustable dampers your looking at over £800 quid, I know people will scream about the name but for the road gaz seem quite sensible.

AST all day long. This has nothing to do with the fact I'm in the group buy and we're one buyer short.

id get the H&Rs mate i love mine the ride is still smooth aswell or if the ast's are cheaper in the group buy get them

If your using them mainly for road use, and a few track days then the H&R's are great.

I quite often do 350-400 mile trips in a day, and don't find them that much stiffer [more uncomfortable] then the standard shocks tbh.

i have AST's on my 172 cup, great set up, but not the most comfortable, however i have been out in worse riding cars

bilsteins are a very nice riding set up IMO
