help me please!!!!!

Hi i was wonderin if any1 could shed some light on a problem i have, while drivin me 16v to pick a mate up i pulled away from some lites and was ready for the next set and put the brake pedal down it ht the floor as it was very soft... i used the gears to slow and pumped the brakes, they slowely started to work mainly at the front and from the rear drivers side i could hear a grinding like metal on metal or possibly stone?? anyways i managed to make it home and around most corners even with the brakes off i could hear the grindin noise but it looks normal from what i could see in the dark,

does any1 have any ideas what to do as i dont like takin car to garages for fear of being riped off i am pretty handy doin little jobs and if its any thin to do with caliper removal will i need special tools? thanx

pad material could possibly of come off the backing plate.

It would mean large gap beween piston and disc, thus the pumping, and the grinding noise is metal on metal.

It could be as simple as changing the pad which takes 10 mins.

do u suggest new pads? if so any idea how much? or would it be ok puttin same pad back on? thanx for the comment i need to no whats wrong or i wont be able to sleep

oh i think i read it more clearly this time PAD =f**kED yeah..

yea new pads from halfords are only a couple quid.....just change them.

I have done the job on the car now i found the inside brake pad had come out, and then noticed that the brake pad retaining bar had been removed i looked on the otherside and the same thing the pds were also lose and the br gone no sign of it.... I have pretty big alloys and am now thinkin someone has removed them recently as i have had no problems with the brakes in a long tym... Does ne1 know any reason they could have come out? PS I couldnt get the parts so i went scrappy and pulled them off a vtr and they fit... Thats Modifiyin
