help, my file sharing isnt working since format :(

can anyone make a little checklist of what to do at all?

im running norton internet security 2006 and have put the proper ip's in the trusted bit and permitted windows file sharing in the advanced tab

both comps have the same workgroup name and all folders are shared ok, i just get the error when i type the \\ bit in explorer

anyone any ideas what it could be?

its defo \\ you use, // opens an ie browser....

my pc im trying to get to is named desktop so i used to type \\desktop and bobs your uncle, but now it doesnt work

What error does it give you? Dies it work with the firewall off? You might also want to disable the windows firewall, it can block file sharing.

Sorry, i couldnt remember exactly as I tend not to use windows machines anymore.. any luck with getting it solved then ?

Maybe try running a nmap on the IP of the box thats sharing the drive and see if the ports really are open, hate to say this but my experience of Norton security centre isnt good.. it generally degrades a PC's performance to the point its unusable and when you kill it or exit the application it still blocks ports.

And ye.. switch the stupid fuckign windows firewall off, it really is more bother for you to have it on that it would be for a cracker to bypass..

Uninstall Norton and chuck the cd in the bin...
