Been very lucky with my mk2 172 so far, just hit 7.5K and no problems other than a sh*tty passenger seat rail.
UNTILL
I turned the stereo and was driving about and i noticed a sound front front arches like big wheels rubbing on the plastic inner arch. The car has standard wheels and suspension. First i was turning right, say around a 90 degree bend and i would hear this sound from the passenger arch. Later i was turning left and heard it from the drivers arch i think. It happens sort of after turning and when you are straightening the wheels back up again. Obviously first thing i checked was plastic inner arches to see if either of them had loosened and was catching, but the look fine. If you put it on full lock and drive the sound doesnt happen. It looks to me as if i turn the car sharply and the car leans slightly and as i straighten up again the dampers would pop up wouldnt they, maybe it could be that. Then i started thinking would both front dampers go at 7.5k on a renault (most probally). Other than that i could only think that it could be something loose. Checked all around engine bay, all brackets etc. The only thing i can see in the rubber pipe that goes under the gearbox, wondering because there is slight movement in it that as a go around corners sharply this could be knocking left to right.
HELP me please.
Does anyone else get this sound. Everyone go rag your car around some sharp bends while placing you head by the front arches to listen for noises.
