Help needed



  bmw 530 sport
Took my engine to an engine builder /mechanic that done the work on my Clio engine for timing
Started it up and it run for 10 minutes
Valves failed
Think it was timed wrong

Where can I take it once Iv fixed it for timing
Essex or close if possible please

Is it just the angle of the light, or is there a chamfer (sloped edge) at the top of bores 2 and 3?
Also looks like there are very indents on the face of the block.

I would be livid about that, who built the engine for you?!

It doesn't help now, but... You should have taken it to a reputable specialist in the first place, Engine Dynamics or @Michael Woodford MST are local to you

I'd take the whole thing to them and see what's salvageable, rather than fixing what you think is OK and having something else fail!

Vvt or non vvt 422's? If it's vvt 422's then you need to keep in mind that the dephaser pulley advances the timing by around 16 degrees at around 1200rpm. You can measure as much as you like, but if you don't take that into consideration your fucked all roads round tbh.
I'm amazed that you couldn't hear the pistons doing the skinhead moonstomp on the valves as well tbh. Takes more than just a couple of taps to knock valve heads off!! Even standard valves usually just bend if it's not doing silly rpm.

I called him he don't give a toss
Northloopcup it turned over freely by hand
And no noises at all
Then cut out n no more starting as it was stuck on valve at tdc

Clearances also change when you get heat and high rpms involved as I found when I was learning on my fiestas CVH a few years ok. Clipped a valve when I was going for it that measured what I thought was ok when I was building it.

Yup 100% it engaged the dephaser and started knocking the valves.

If you paid him to do it, it's down to him to repair it.
As the OP has added more info, I got the impression the "mechanic" was given a pile of parts, told that they were compatible and asked to put it all together, obviously I may be wrong though...?

Out of interest, how would you check clearance at the moment the dephaser engages?

For head skim check valves and springs and reseat valves
Block for honing
Pistons and rods for balanceing
Crank and clutch for ballencing
I built back up
And he came round and fitted belt and timed it
As Iv never done a vvt
Only ford cross flows pintos and lotus twin cams

Going forge internals now
And they will time it up if I take there
They seem very clued up

PM me a price for the other 3 pistons if theyre unmarked.
 
Anyone timing that up to renault specs would have the same problem the cut outs in the pistons as std aren’t big enough for the lift of 422 cam unless you deepen the pockets.
