Help - please - 182 issue

Basically had another engine put in my 182 recently as I was a fool and didn't check the oil. The 40,000 mile replacement engine was fitted but soon realised that the ticking noise was the dephazer pulley messing about. I drove it for a couple of weeks with the annoying noise but then the other day I was driving at 70 and the engine just died. No bangs or anything, just like I had a flat battery. Anyone had the same issue? Will a new pulley make me a happy man again?

Cheers

Yeah it was my fault. Didn't do my research. I had the cambelt, water pump and clutch changed but didn't know of this pulley issue. Will it be a case of just fitting a new pulley ??

funny how many "specialists" say its not an issue, yet i bang on saying it is!

you can if you want, but i wouldn't touch it without fitting a new belt MINIMUM as long as there was proof of a recent belt kit (aux kit too)

seals must be done too, plus oil and filter

Yeah I have proof of the belts as I purchased them and a friend of mine who worked at Renault fitted the engine etc

Yeah not ideal to say the least. Not sure what's up with it now. The car won't even turn over.

My missus was well happy when I broke down in the rain on a dual carriageway - she said you're 30 and should get a sensible car. I love my 182 though

So you put a new engine in to your car and never once checked the oil? I think a new dephaser is the least of your problems mate and really it needs a proper looking at to see what has happened and to say if it's salvageable. At the very least you need the spark plugs out and see if you can turn the engine by hand then get the timing end caps out and an inspection of the timing belt to rule out a massive failure.

How sure are you that its a genuine 40k lump to as i personally wouldn't expect to hear one rattling at that age... never say never but i'm surprised thats all.

Sorry didn't make the thread clear. The previous engine blew because I was an idiot. The replacement lump put in about a month ago. The engine felt strong and better than previous. Just don't understand enough about the dephaser to know if it fails will the engine just die like it did ?
