Wont I need a proper press or special tool for removing them and replacing them without damaging?
you could easily damage the new bearing my using a hammer and is much safer and better practice to use the correct equipment, in this case a hydraulic presswhat makes it so hard/different to do it on a clio/sport? I replaced the rear wheel bearings in my brother ford escort 2 weeks ago to get it through the mot. Theres 2 bearings in each rear hub on his car, i used a hammer and punch to remove the old/worn bearings and a socket the same size as the outer race and a hammer to fit the new bearings in, job done, mot passsed...going to use same principle on the bearings on my 172 unless someone has done them and they aint that straight forward?
I have access to a hydraulic press in work, so will use that when i find which bearing has gone, it could well be a front bearing? I just wanted to know that there isnt anything nasty needed doing when i have the hub off, as i have read on here about people not being able to do it them selves for some reason or other....you could easily damage the new bearing my using a hammer and is much safer and better practice to use the correct equipment, in this case a hydraulic press
