Help talk me out of this!!

Dont get me wrong I love my 182 but recently I am entertaining thoughts of re-entering Scooby ownership! Had a modded 1999 Turbo before and am actually contemplating a 1997/8 STI meaning an import aswell! Sold my last one because of insurance and worry that it was gonna get nicked, tho I actually never had a problem with it. My financial situation has only slightly improved and though it didnt skint me before there was always the worry that if something major did go wrong I would be in trouble. Its this kind of thing that makes me think I just aint well off enough to really have one yet without worry but as soon as I convice myself of that two weeks later Im scanning the Autotrader again! Working with the bloody things isnt helping either!!!!!

Yes I am being greedy and yes I should be happy with what I have.

I dont think you should tbh. Youve already got together a good few valid reasons why you shouldnt get one. Surely if you buy one you just going to start the same thoughts again and then look to get rid...

Are any of the other Jap turbo motors easier on insurance/running costs??

I did the exact same thing when i decided to go for an Evo 4 after having a Evo 2 before, i would only do it if you absolutely sure that you can fully afford it, as i say i did the same thing and now im back to a 172 cup, which for me is actually better suited to where i live, thus i dont think ill be going back to Evo/Scooby ownership for a little while.

PS evos are better than Scoobys;).......except the 4 anyway lol

Rick + jongsr4 = you are both spot on. I do tend to go round in circles with this one and yeah unless I got a pay rise I probably would wanna get rid in a year or two!

jongsr4 - Funnily enough I was thinking of going and having a look at an Evo 4 tomorrow 39K miles - £9495. But I just no the salesman will offer me about £8K for mine and will want to kill him and will have wasted time and petrol!

Evos generally are better than Scoobs but they dont sound half as good! Was talking to a customer today who has a 1995 Jap WRX and an EVO 2 and he preffered the WRX.

Mate, dont do it imo. Ive only ever met you once - Matlock last summer.

I like what youre doing with your 182 - wheels, lowered etc.

I think it would be a backward step getting a Scooby, of the age youre talking about anyway. That age is where the problems start and the costs mount.

Dont get me wrong, Im a massive Impreza and Evo fan, but if you have a tight-ish budget, then you could do much worse than owning a 182.

dont bother imo, enjoy having a bit of spare cash as a result of the cheaper insurance and better fuel economy.

scooby - inherant piston slap? (well thats what i heard)

unless you where gonna get the latest version, i would say NO!

and its not like you havent got an awesome car already!!

if you have any doubts at all its not worth it, wait till you are 100% sure that you want to change again otherwise you may regret it. on the other hand, its up to you, and if your like me, nobody will talk you out of something you want...

my 2p deposited :)

All good advice. At the moment I have my sensible head on and im gonna stick with the 182. Deep down I dont really want to go back to an older car so would probably go round in circles as suggested above!

Cheers Mike

I had similar dilema in the 2 or 3 months before I decided to buy a new 172, I had a top whack of £13k to spend at the time and toyed with a 2nd hand Scooby, Couldnt find a good standard FSSH one with less than 3 owners and arround 35-40k miles, lad at work told me how much it cost him to run his non STi and petrol mpg and decided I wanted a brand new car and nothing came close to the 172 (ordered sept 03, got it nov 03)
Would love a scooby but im dreaming TBH
