Hi all, iv just changed the engine in my mk1 ph3 1.2 clio. Its the same engine as the old one, so have not bothered to change ECU ect. After fitting everything back into my car, and wiring up the electrics, i went to do the water...
Now to the problem...when i filled it up the first time i forgot to open the bleed valves, (the diet engine has 2, 1 on radiator and 1 on the pipe going to heater). so basically the system had a whole bunch of air in it and it didnt work. so i drained it all out again (fun) and went to put it back in again....heres what i did...
i opened both bleed valves, then started to add the water. the water started to come out of the valve on the radiator so i closed that vavle, and finnished filling up the system with water untill the water was just below "max" on the expansion tank. No water had come out of the second bleed vavle (this didnt seem right to me). anywayz, i started the engine and let it run for 4 mins or so, then stopped it and rechecked the levels. the water level was now a bit above the max line now (so i didnt fill it up anymore). i then ran the engine for 10 mins; durring this time the expansion tank needed refilling with about 1.5L of water more. then engine got hot, the radiator fans came on and i could see the water being pumped into the expansion tank (at this point i thought everything was ok..). after letting everything cool down, i checked levels again, only to find the tank empty again, so i topped it up to the level. started engine, let it run for a bit, took the car for a short drive (1 to 2 miles) parked up and checked levels. the level of water in the tank was exsactly the same as befre i went to drive. however, the fans hadnt come on for the whole trip and the radiator didnt feel that warm (found this odd as engines was very hot to touch). i then went to park the car in drive; i could hear a low squeak/modulation/whistleing sound from the engine when at 1500 to 2000rpm.
have i still got air lock and my cooling systems isnt working, so the piston rings are overheating thus making the sound? or is it something else?
ps. no warning lights were on, but im not sure they work 100% anyway.
Any help would be nice! thanks.
