Hi,

This is my first post, hopefully more to come if I get the Clio!

Im going to view a 172 tonight and a few things have stuck me as "too good to be true", i just want to make sure I'm not being over paranoid or maybe the older 172's are cheaper than I thought...

Ebay link here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261420420045?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

He's asking £1200, said he's owned it for 3 months and selling because his girlfriend doesn't approve.

The cam belt has been done and he says he has proof, all in all what he's saying sound like a great buy - but for £1200 its seems like a very good deal...

Whats the general verdict, good deal or too good?

And what should I look for tonight that would make him wanna get rid of the car as quickly as he can?

Thanks!

Thanks, Ive had a quick read of that, helpful advice.

But in terms of price for a FF 172 with 80,000? is 1200 in the right range?

I would have expected to pay slightly more?

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
i cant see the link at work so I dont even know what colour it is.

to be honest if you dont know what your looking for there could be a whole raft of things required to be done-

For example cambelt done isnt what you need to know-

You need to know, who did the cambelt- was it specialist, did they change the FULL aux belt kit, was the dephaser changed & so on...

If you want my advice-pay the £10 membership on here & find a well looked after one in the classifieds on here.

It looks ok from the pics , but not the best pics to be honest . Imo , it's on the slightly cheaper side . I would have expected maybe another £300 or £400 , but then again they can be bought pretty cheap these days .

You definitely need proof it's had both belts and dephaser done and by a garage that knows what they are doing .

2 things would put me off though . Firstly , and this is just me . Only a feedback score of 3 on ebay . I'm always dubious about new sellers . And the fact that the central locking doesn't work with the plip . I don't know if this is an easy , cheap fix or some more underlying problem for the future .

Also the bit about the girlfriend saying she doesn't approve :S . If it was my girlfriend she'd either have to put up with it or jog on lol .

Yeah, I don't feel I know Clio's that well. Used to have 106's.

The cars silver, I'm guessing thats the cheapest colour.

Ill go tonight and see what kinda vibes I get, only having 3 ebay feedback and selling because your mrs said so sent the alarm bells ringing for me.

If anyone is selling round the manchester area, I'm looking!

I'm sure I remember seeing it for sale back end of last year as recognise the picture with the petrol pump.

Definitely find out how long ago belts were changed and who did them.

Getting the key sorted for central locking could be costly, if it was a relatively cheap thing to do then why wasn't it done before selling.

Could be due belts depending on how long ago they were done as it does say they were done at 58,000. Could be one of the reasons it's cheap as he may have realised the cost to get them done?

Maybe a novice question here, but how much would it be for a full belt change?

Although it sounds like pushing the forum like R-sport said pay the £10 membership and see what's on offer here you save more in the long run.

Just looked myself and there's a few nice ones in there.

Mossman . As said above . Your best bet is pay a tenner and become a full member and get access to all the forum , cars for sale etc .... there are always some reasonably priced cars in there owned by enthusiasts that have been well looked after .

For £1200 you can't really go wrong but if belts need doing I'd let the auction run as I would guess it will stay South of 1k..
