I have a problem i have sold my 16 valve to my sister as i now have a company car. It has been sitting for quite a while and i have now started getting it ready for her. Now what the problem is that when you turn the car off the fan comes on but when you turn the car on the fan turns off.

Any help would be appreciatted

over heatin for some reason??? is there some sort of solenoid in the fan???

Yeah the fans just cooling the car down, mine does the same when it gets hot from a good thrashin !!

Check the coolant level, check the thermostat

it might have the timed cooling fan that will cut in for about 10mins after the engine has been turned off.

yeah but if you you turn the car off it will cut in but not if you just leave the engine running which would result in over heating. The car had been sitting on my drive for about 6 months and i have now sold it to my sister. i Have replaced the thermostat, and a new fan switch but it just doesnt work

the timed fan relay and the standard fan operation use different wiring to a point because it has to bypass the fan switch to operate the fan for the timed period. have you got an ing feed to one of the pins on the fan switch?
