HID lights legal in clios?

  Dynamique
i've been told a vicious rumour that you can't have HID lights in clios because the reflection in them or something make them too bright, i have a mk2 ph2, can i have them or is it just rumours. cheers

you cannot have them unless car is fitted from factory. why not buy some 172/182 headlights? stock fitment and you'll be legal once aligned

risk losing your car. i don't think so. police have the power to take your car if fitted with dangerous/illegal lights apparently. plus, i wouldn't want to be driving towards you at night.

Someone on here told me i can have them in my mk2ph1 cos it's got the dua optic projectors?

Thats what i understand, although they wont be strictly legal as we dont have auto leveling.

They are £175 each from cit-ren graham.

Nope still not legal because of no washers or auto levelling but you'll be fine. At least you won't be blinding people coming the other way unlike the idiots that retrofit hid bulbs into halogen clusters without projectors.

spot on;)

Not so bad in projector type headlights. Awful in the reflector type headlights, and you WILL get pulled for it. There is a polish t**t with them in his BMW around here and he used to blind everyone with them, they really were bright.

Ok so i can clear my mind once and for all, i have dual optics on my ph1, if i was to fit a 6000k hid kit to them and the beam was focused, would i still pass an mot as i have manual levelling.(i am aware its not strictly legal due to no washers or auto levelling)

I would say it's entirely dependant on the MOT tester.

It should be an easy swap back to normal bulbs at MOT time though if you get a plug and play kit off ebay ;)

They'll be fine as they're behind projectors with the dual optics, whether they'd pass an mot is as said subject to the tester really. But they'd be easy enough to swap back to normal bulbs for the MOT.

ok so getting xenons are the only way around i then, thats quite expensive, are there any other light's that are legal that will do a simillar job?

  clio 182 + cup packs
if your after that blue tinge then its not the bulb that creats that but the projector head lamp its self, the blue you see is the light refracting through the glass ball.

my pet hate is retro fitted hid kits in the wrong headlights cos you cant see f**k all driving towards them.

they wouldnt pass an mot unless fitted to projector headlights(glass bowls) cos the beam pattern is too scarted which is why they glare other drivers

so do you reckon angel eye projector headlights would look good or not, has anyone done it already and liked it or disliked it.

Whats the best cost / performance solution for getting HID style lamps in a mk1? My £30 'best on the market Philips megas**te' uprated bulbs are no good at all for driving around Yorkshire at top speed in the wee smalls.

I think if £11 rally bulbs were close to the output of HIDs the market would be somewhat different.

Are there any serious suggestions of how to get very high performance light from the front of an older Clio.

PIAA Extreme White Plus H4 (Anti Vibration if you want)

Awesome in mk1s

I can't help but think they'd be the same as the similarly priced 'accessory of the year' (AutoExpress) Philips X-tras**te I just bought.

Just like a £3 bulb with a tiny extra push.

HIDs are on a completely different level, which literally flood the road in front.
Believe me, they are a million times better than the crap you can buy from halfrauds.

MatBrown drove mine when he did some work on it and he commented on them without being prompted iirc.

Where are you? If you're nearby you're welcome to come and have a look :)

Yes but put uprated halogens in as posted, end of. Theres nothing else you can do, bar get some angel eyes for the projectors and put hid bulbs in them, and most of them you see can't work with hid bulbs as they're not made of UV resistant plastic.

I'm glad your friend liked them, but I bought the Philips UltraBright (sposed to be one of the best) and couldn't tell much difference at all after fitting them. There's no way in the world I can drive as fast as I want to at night, and it comes down to the bulbs I'm afraid.

But there are some angel eyes on the market that are good for HIDs?!

Yes but you'd have to check they can work with them, as if they're not made of UV resistant plastic the UV light from the hids will break the plastic down and it will just crumble over time.

Are you for real??

Mate of mine has a 200sx, has had an HID kit fitted for over 3 years now and the headlights are still spot on...its had 3 MOT's since he fitted the kit.

  BMW M135i
Yes because thats what UV does to untreated plastics over time. Why do you get aftermarket clusters which say do no use with hid bulb? And others which specifically state they can be used.

Snore...

Its NOT that big a deal mate really..

Well, why read the thread then? If you're too inexperienced to know the answer, probly best just to leave it, eh. Timewasting, thread-ending cretin. (I'm sorry, but these sort of people really get on my goat. If this issue wasn't already a problem to me, I wouldn't post the question).

Thanks to everyone else though. Am now searching for HID compatible angel-eyes, but have an extra problem that my Clio is a sleeper (planning a 172 engine upgrade) so don't want to go obviously modern.
Bit more searching needed.....

Look noob, don't call me a cretin.

And it was nothing to do with inexperience either, now go back into your box ;)
