HID's on a 172 Cup...

Car  Iceberg 172
Hi everyone.

I want to fit HID's to my Cup.

What is the easiest / best way of doing this?

If I fit 182 xenon headlights will my manual adjusters work with them or am I gonna have to fit some sort of auto leveling device as well?

Am I just better to get an aftermarket 6000k kit and fit it to the original hadlights?

Please please please don't fit hid's if you haven't got projector units it gets on my tits being blinded by chavs that do this mod.

Chav?! I really hate this term. So now you're a chav if you fit HID's to std headlights? That's amazed me. If I said I wanted Audi style DRL's along the front bumper I could see where you're coming from!

Correct me if i'm wrong but surely as long as the beam is adjusted correctly it wouldn't matter if they were halogens or HID's? They're not pointing at on coming traffic so they're not going to blind you?????

I've fitted the HID kits to both my previous E36 shaped BMW's and I can't say i ever looked at it and though "chav"!? I also never had any issues with blinding on coming traffic.

I appreciate projectors would look better but I'm presuming 172/182 xenon prjectors are going to cost a small fortune???? If it's a few hundred quid then great, i'd prefer them. But if they're the sort of money i'd expect them to be then for now i'd prefer to spend circa hundred pounds on an after market kit.

it's a grey area, but i believe you will pass an MOT etc with them, so long as they're set up well.

and complete Projector/Xenon units can be had for about £250-£300, but they seem quite hard to come by...

Ok, well I'm not that fussed atm... after looking at my headlights I do think that I need projectors for them to look good, so i'll have to keep my eyes peeled for some FF headlights.

Thanks.

Pisses me off no end when the local chavs fly around in the escorts with the HID kit in a normal headlight unit, Just like some one coming towards you with the high beam

As said above, pick up a Renault set-up from a breakers for best effect ;)

Does anyone know how much work it is to fit light units from the standard 172 with the ballasts etc??

I'm gonna phone cliospares at the weekend and see if I can get a set - is it a lot of wiring to get them to work on a cup?

No I do see what you guys are saying now. When I put them on my e36's they already had projector style (but std) facelifted headlights in them so it wasn't like the whole light lighting up...

Which I'll be honest, I thought that my headlights would of been projector style just without xenons... I looked last night and i was very wrong!

SORRY!!! - I'm still getting to know the car! Within 6 months i'll be an expert at the rate i'm learning things about it atm!!!!!!!

It wasn't a personal pop at you fella but if you put hid's in halogen units then the beam pattern scatters everywhere and you end up blinding on-comming traffic.

If you get complete units i.e. with ballasts, it's just plug & play.
only wire cutting etc is involved if you get an aftermarket HID kit.

I now know what you mean mate having seen a Saxo with HID's last night!

They both use the same adjuster motors the only difference is the Cups are driven by a switch on the dash (if im not mistaken?) where as the Xenon units are leveled automatically by the rear axles position.

Bulbs can be picked up fairly cheap on Ebay if your stuck, the only expensive bit is the ballast unit because it has to be a Renault item.
