high milage 172?

thinking of buying a clio 172 but it has just under 100k on clock full renault service stamp aparently mint cam belt 13k ago.

what the crack with high miles he says its all motorway miles.

if serviced correctly it should be all good shouldnt it?

  Chocolate Bar™
yeah should be fine. mechanically the engines are excellent, its just everything else that falls off around it lol

  Lots of Alfas
Is it a ph1 or a ph2, check all the consumables, tyres, brakes, shocks, bushes, exhaust, mounts, alternator, clutch and box. Check the radiator is not leaking and also the water pump. A high miler wouldnt put me off, although expect ther interior to be worn to bits if its a ph1.

  172cup
wouldn't bother me at all! things like water pump etc would have been done with the cambelt, so i wouldnt worry about that.

my cup is in 74k and running like a dream

  cup 182 mit stripes
What does it run like? Are you impressed by the performance? Does it have good brakes, gear change ect ? If yes to all, buy it.

  Clio 172 (Silver)
I'm upto 82K in my MkII PhII 172. Still runs sweet as a nut and most of the consumables you'll replace with aftermarket items soon anyway.

Coil overs, new alloys etc.

  RB 182
Mine did 101k on a 51, bought it off a member on here, full history and excellent condition, i paid only £3200 for it too, with nearly full tax!

Drove like a dream, no knocks bangs or anything and didnt use any oil

Alot of people get put off by high mileage, but that just makes them bargains!

  53 Clio's & counting
mines a 2001 'Y' and i bought it on 98k with full renault history for jus over 2k matey, would be good if u can knock him down a lil more but so far mines been running like a dream, goes like stink and is coming up on 104k now lol

  Megane Trophy
Mines done 57k and i think thats high miles ha ha!

Im slightly worried its not worth anything like the price i paid i paid for 18 months ago!

  ph1 172 Black
I'm on 105k and all seems fine.

Renault FSH. Heard of Willy doing well over 150k. End of day if engine is looked after mondern 16v engines just go an go.

Not like old engines that get rattly and boll*xs after 100k.

Mine sounds fine and power is deff there. Got 139mph out of it other weekend. I know it's a stupid speed to do but for a one off we all have had a go.
I have had to get new dogbone engine mount mind but checked all shocks and springs before buying.

The ph1s do get rattley but thats Renault for you and heard of plenty of ph2 owners having to get new engine mounts at a lot earlier miles. Just look for oil leaks because thats a bad sign.

Mine was doing 12k in 8-10 months and mainly motorway. I've drove a 172 ph1 with 80k and gear box felt loose, clutch stiff, and a few other things. The 80k one didn't have Renault FSH so end of day if it's been looked after should be fine (I keep telling myself this.) The 80k one bodywork was terribly swirly and bumper was out of line. Same price as mine aswell.

have put a deposit down on a 172 with 101k on clock he took me out in it but im gunna test drive it myself wen i have the cash their which is fair enough. wen he took me out in it everthing seemed ok so just the final test drive and hand over the cash.

nice to hear that they have been known to go up to 150k :)

had major service at 83 and cambelt change, wen would it next need a service as would like to keep the fsh up.

dick

id be more worried about the rear bumper than the engine mate!
