High pitch whine from the right hand side of the engine bay...

Was out driving my car last night and noticed a high pitch shriek from the bottom right hand side of the engine bay.

It only ever happened when I was doing a decent speed in 5th gear, backing off the throttle over 4000rpm....

I thought it might be a wheel bearing....

Any ideas??

was the noise dependant on road speed, or engine speed?

i.e. does it do it when you get to around 4000rpm in ANY gear and then back off, or only in 5th?

what sort of speeds are you doing at 4000rpm in 5th - i.e. if you do the same speed in 4th does it make the noise?

does the noise get louder/more frequent the faster you go?

say you get to 4000rpm in 5th and then drop it into neutral, is the noise still there?

Check the AUX belt sounds like it might have gone slack.

It seems like it was speed dependant. Only did it when I was in fifth gear backing off from over 4k rpm....

No other gears at the same revs...

did you try putting the clutch in when it was making the noise, and if so, was it still there?

Yeah it was still there I think.

I'll need to do another test though to be 100% though...
