High Revs!!!!

  Mk1 Clio Rsi
okay, after takin the car off road for a month and doing a full service, head gasket change and cam belt change it was finally time to get the car running again, built it all back up, all sensors and plugs connected... checked, and checked again, we took the HT leads off and turned the engine over, just to make sure there were no nasty knocks or bangs from the timing been out, everything was fine, so re-connected the HT leads and started the engine, "Vroooooom" engine started more or less straight away but revs went straight up to about 3000/3500 revs and held there occasionally going higher then dropping back to about 3000/3500 revs Grrr cannot figure out what is wrong, all sensors, and all plugs are all correct, all vacuum pipes are connected, manifold is tight... i dont understand why such high revs, any help is very much appreciated
thank you in advance, smilf
