they're fragile and don't like being rushed
if you suck at heel toe-ing then just brake,
let off the brake/blip & shift
then back on the brakes!!!
edit- i do not advocate this as a geniune method of downshifting, just a bit of fun when you're on your own.
ok my mistake it doesnt actually mention the synchro specifically. It simply says Double declutching are superfluous actions in modern cars. page 2.07, last paragraph of the driving section.
@fred/icarus
sometimes I have a problem putting it into first, usually untill the car warms up a bit. IT's not that it won't go in, but you have to do a strange karate move to get it nudge.
Really anoyed me these last few days, the traffic light goes green and I'm in the car doing naughty moves with my hand, someone could think I'm playing :clown:
Normal characteristics of the car? :boring:
oh and btw, car's done 13.000 miles
yeah that does happen, no idea as to why, but if you go into 2nd then into 1st that normally lets it slot straight in
Well when i'm slowing down for a corner when pressing on, i'll get on the brakes down on the clutch into neutral then a blip with my toe up to the right revs then in on the clutch and into gear and back off the clutch again before the revs drop. Slots into gear very sweetly and will be smooth back off the clutch as well unless your slow at it and let the revs drop. Been doing it in the 225 and the 172 before that, its a bit easier on the 225 with its stupid dual mass flywheel as the revs drop much more slowly.Apart from "heel and toe" and "Double declutching" are two entirely seperate techniques. The former is of great use on any synchro box to ease loads on the synchros and retain car balance during a downchange. The latter is used for boxes with no synchromesh i.e. crash type boxes to allow a smooth change by ensuring the speeds match for reengagement of the dogs.
In short if you can't heel and toe your missing out on a pretty huge aspect of driving!

Its not an easy thing to explain really, kinda like different slipiness grades/additives etc.. Have a read
