Hmmm change of plans, need a DAS-6 but wheres cheapest?

  Bus w**ker
Well driving to the tram station this morning a truck kindly launched something, a rock or bolt or tortoise I'm not sure, at my car. As a result I've now got two lovely big scratches up my bonnet some more scuffs at the top of it, a scuff on the window and another scratch on the A pillar. To say I'm pissed off is an understatement. But I think it will come out as it looks like it's just clear coat that's took the hit.

As I'm on the RAOC stand at WSR I'm going to see how much I can remove by hand before Saturday, but I'm not holding out much hope.

So whilst I was planning to get one in a month or so I'm now going to get a DAS-6 (no I'm not going straight to rotary. Yes I am a pussy. :rasp:) but as I'm also overhauling my brakes and have just bought a new exhaust cash is a bit strapped...so unless some kind soul feels like machine polishing my whole car for me for free, well I'll give you beer and BBQ in return lol, I need to buy one as cheaply as possible quickly.

So what I'm after is the Kestral DAS-6 with the Megs starter kit, 3.5" backing plate, some Lake Country 4" spot pads and obligatory blue 3m tape. So where can people recommend for this lot for a penny pincher like me?

Oh and with regards to the LC spot pads which colours do I need in my life? Orange, white, black and blue?

Ta

Sy :(

Nightmare :(! Have a look at chemicalguysuk Im sure he does a das-6 kit, with 10% cliosport discount, as does Mat at i4detailing (I think)

Sy, why don't you just borrow mine mate? I'm away this weekend and working next week, so after this Porsche is finished tomorrow night it will no be being used.

Ping me ya thexy thing.

Jamie, if you don't mind mate that would be farking uber as I'm off all next week and the weather so far looks like it's going to be ok so I should be able to get a good run at it all.

I'm just in the middle of the monthly stats run so as soon as I get chance I'll get in touch.

XOXO

Yeah nay probs lad. I am heading down to Kent on Sat morning, so dependant on you location I could bring with/meet you en route down.

Chat later.

Ours aren't the cheapest, although we'd price match, but as we buy direct from the manufacturer they come with a D-Handle and canvas carry case which people seem to be really like. The D-Handle is a massive improvement over just the side handle, but they come with that as well.

this is a random bump!

Can you buy the D handle separately to fit onto a Kestrel instead of the side handle??

Oooh. Good question! Tim or Matt are the ones to ask. Tim is around at the moment, so get on that PM ;)

I asked Matt and he said no. Not contacted CYC yet, as I keep forgetting, but I'd assume they will be able to provide them and if not they are missing out on a trick there. I'd not use a D handle now though as I have my kungfu action death vice grip nailed.

i believe the kestrel Tim sells is a bespoke design excllusive to CYC - ie he's the only one who sells it with D handle and the carry bag, and also a longer lead on the machine as the original one - with the side handle is quite short, if anyone has the original one with the short wire theres a guide on DW on how to change it for a longer one ;)

Oh right I get what you mean now!! I'd already changed mine, literally opened the box, saw the short lead and thought "meh il make that longer" :)

cheers for the link though

I don't know why people are so scared of them tbh.

What did you think of the DAS-6 when you used it? It's totally killer on your hands after 30 mins or so, especially if you're working it hard.

Rotary is so much smoother

Well....you saw what start I got off to

Really enjoyed having a go with it but was tough on the hands...Doing a whole car would be pretty knackering I imagine.

Indeed

Your 901 should be here in the morning bud. Can you let me know about the cards too please :)

Almost correct.

Tim's DAS-6s comes direct from the manufacturer in China, so its not a Kestrel.

All DAS-6s now come with the improved 3.1meter cable and have done for quite some time now.

The I4D spec DAS-6 is packaged with both a 5" and 6" backing plate to give you more choice over pads.

Being a Kestrel branded product it benefits from a 1year manufacturers warranty and use of the Kestrel service and repair centre here in the UK.

No bag or D-handle - just a great price ;)

To be honest I actually find the D-handle a pain and prefer to place the palm on my hand on the end of the polisher as I find you get more control this way (see pic below - taken from the DA user guide over on Detailing World).

I did check this out for someone else recently - Kestrel don't bring in the D-handle for the DAS-6 and the one from the SIM180 rotary does not fit.

Okay Matt cheers for the info...maybe il try and fabricate something if I can be arsed :)

Just need your thumb round a little bit more, i.e. near the off button ;)

Glad our methods are similar!!

JD, that's DaveKG, the polishing MASTER! I'll let him know about his thumb placement for you ;)

Matt is far more beautiful.
