How can a garage tell if you have cup or std suspension?

Hi,

This query as per the title has always bothered me..

For instance, my offside front spring has snapped.. I know there is a difference between cup and std springs so did not let the garage order these parts due to them not being specialists.

I've managed to source second hand springs for £10 which are from a cup donor vehicle.

My question is how can garages tell when ordering new parts? If I search my reg on Euro car parts I get two options regarding springs, but it does not say whether these are cup or std. In addition if I provide details of a standard 182 there is no difference in the results that come back..

Cheers!

won't get the correct cup bits from Euro/GSF etc

Simple answer is they can't and usually fit the wrong parts. I've removed base model springs from 182's before

Yeah the springs have red/white blobs I believe if they are cup springs..

What about shock absorbers?

As Dan said, get genuine, I've got a Mickey Mouse Monroe shock on one corner and it's terrible compared to the other side.
Alternatively get Fred@BTM on the case like I do.
Whereabouts in Tamworth are you, there's a few of us on here.

Easiest way to see if it's cup setup is look at the abs ring on the front driveshaft cup ones are maybe 10mm fat compared to the skinny one on std 182's

Thanks for the responses..

Riverside... yep I've seen quite a few Clio Sports, caught up with a black one today, looked lowered, black wheels, custom badge looked great!

The springs have different coloured tags on them IIRC.

Fronts have both yellow and blue marks, rears have red and white (on a 182 cup). This is what I see on mine and research says it's correct and original. Any experts please say otherwise so we can all learn this.

Put eibach sportline springs on my cup suspension'd 182 easter weekend and the original springs i took off had these markings on

I'm not sure who makes OEM Renault dampers, but i'd certainly not call Monroe Mickey Mouse, lol. They put dampers on things far more tasty than a £2k Clio!
