How can I remove this locking nut.

It's a weird one because the outer edge is round, sockets won't go on. The removal tool from halfords etc won't fit.

And to make it worse, it's not the bolt you screw into the hub, so can't be drilled I don't think. It's a female to male, those washer type ones...

Garages are quoting £25 per wheel!!

Any ideas?!

Chisel + hammer.

Either make a slot in it and screw it off, or f**k it up and split it/turn it.

Failing that, weld something on to it like a socket ?!

oh... we used it to get a snapped bolt out ok lol... and as the nut has holes in it... the pins would drop in there...

remove the hub with the wheel on and chop the back of the stud off lol... otherwise heat and snapping it off might work...

This. Or if you know someone who's good at fabricating make a little tool that will drop into the recesses

Tightening the other 3 bolts could relieve the tension on it a little, for when you're attempting various things.

Definately this. I've used this on a number of occasions (no, i'm not a wheel theif!) Find a socket that doesn't quite fit over it (preferably one of the multi point ones, not just a hex shape, and a deep one, not short) smash it on and undo it.

Job done! (however, you'll probably want a vice to get it back off the bolt! lol)

If it is very stubborn, slacken off the bolt opposite and tighten the two closest. Hit a socket on that is very tight and then use an impact gun rather than a breaker bar or such like. The vibration helps loosen it.

Does yours have a spinning sleeve around the nut? Mine did and it proved a right b*stard to get off!

Tried smashing an impact socket onto it, didn't work. My mate said it's made out of stailess steel so he couldn't ARC weld onto it. Went to Renault to see if they had spare locking nut sockets, it was a three week wait for one or drill it out for £130.

In the end I got hold of this little gold coloured socket, which was thin enough to fit between the spinning sleeve and the actual nut, hammered it on then undone the bolts, easy as.

Try going to a tyre garage, they'll be able to tell you what the little socket is called.

Actually no. Just rechecked. It's a solid piece. The problem is there Isn't much room around the outside. The removal nut fits inside the sleeve

It looks to me like you'd get a socket in there. You need a decent club hammer though, it really does need whacking.

If you were local I'd have a damn good go at it (I haven't failed to get one off yet)
