How do I format my HDD with XP?

I'm trying to format my old computers HDD before I sell it. I've tried booting from the cd but it still just loads up windows. I've also tried an old ME boot disk but still no joy. Anyone know any other way I can get round it?

Go into the bios and select boot from cd as the first option. alternatively try pressing f11 on the boot screen to choose cdrom as a boot option

Dont think that formatting is the be all and end all. if you are that bothered, spend £40 on a brean d new clean 160gig drive.

Its ok I've sorted it now, the CD rom couldn't read the disk so I've booted from the CDR and its letting me format it now.
