How do you tell if your valver has a 2ltr bottom end?



  Williams 2 - Clio 1.9D
Brought a valver a couple of weeks ago and have read a few posts of people not knowing that they had a 2ltr bottom end. Was just wondering if there is an easy way of telling if you had a 2ltr bottom end. I know for sure the engine has been rebuilt not long ago by the owner before the owner before me if that makes sense. Take it you can use the same ECU's so the rev limiter would be valver 7000 ish so can't tell that way? Or ?

You can re-use the valver ECU so it's not a sure fire way of knowing but it's worth checking. A standard williams ECU will only go to 6500 RPM but a valver will go to 7000+. The only way to tell 100% is to see the back of the block as the williams block has extra strengthening veins on it or a megane block has F7R written in the top corner of the block. The alternative would be to have someone who has driven both take it out as the williams is much more torquey so it noticably different to drive.

Chances are that it's not a williams as it's the sort of detail that is unlikely to be lost between sellers, however as you say there have been some cases where it has happened.

I bloke before me knew nothing about anything. He is a mate of a mate and only brought it for a run around whilst some insurance money was coming through for some smash. I've got some pictures of the bloke they put in how many vanes should there be and how aggressive should they be??

It's hard to describe, if you can get some pictures up of the back of the block they put in we'll be able to tell you though.

As winston says, but the main problem with all these things is that they are interchangable, which is why I mentioned the block as that is the only way of knowing 100%.
