How Expensive?

  2004 182 Black Gold
After calming down from last night, this is actually quite funny now! It's like something off rogue traders though!!

Here's the story:

Purchased my 182 about 4 weeks ago; Private sale, full main dealer history etc. Warranty expires end of September, one mature owner never been anywhere else, no mods ever fitted.

Noticed the oil OK light didn't come on, drove down 2 dealer (Renault Slough, always useless!) - one "technician" had a quick look and said I'd have to book in under warranty for further investigation.

2 Weeks later drop car off.
Later that day..

Phone call - the sender wire is snapped not warranty and £170 to fix.
Me- "erm ok, then don't bother!" .
Stealer - "Still £70 for Diagnostic Check"
Me - "not paying that, never informed beforehand"
Stealer -" You can't have your car back until you pay"
Me -"Fine, I've still got your loan car and you can't have that back until you give me mine back"
Stealer - "I'll phone the police"
Me- "OK then do that"
2 mins of silence
Stealer-"Just bring me the loan car back and I will give you yours back without charge"

Got the car home located the wire, put a bullet connector on both ends of snapped wire connected now OIL OK works :)

I don't know how it broke in the first place??? - Maybe removing an old oil filter by clumsy "technician".

Anyway the main thing was £170 to reconnect a broken wire! That's worse than a fat plumber charging £75 to change a tap washer!!!!!!!

wat a load of bellends. thats scandalous. should expect: 'found the wire and fixed it - wasnt really under warranty but we did it out of good faith'.
so maybe u would use em again if they did.
sound like a bunch of helmets, nicely done tho.

i have a 182 and it usually doesnt tell me the oil is ok. Then the other night the service light came on and it said the oil was low. i filled it up and now whenever i turn the car on it says oil is ok. Is this a similar thing. Also i think i have a small leak because the oil got changed at 24k service and it is now on 28k surely it doesnt use that much oil. It also been topped up twice during this period. Is fixing an oil leak covered under warranty? Sorry if am taking the thread over.

This type of customer service really does make me laugh. They must think we are complete idiots!

I got Renault to order me a new exhaust, Cat back, and they told me it would be in by a certain date.
I managed to locate a local garage to who got the parts and did the job for less than half ther price of Renault, so I called Renault to say I didn't want to proceed. 5 calls and 2 letters later, they are still trying to book me in to fit the parts.

Renault....it's not difficult you know!

It wouldnt say it was ok because it was low. Anyway you shouldnt really rely on that.

  DC5
One of the main reasons I am no longer a Renault owner!!

Do one then ;) lol.

I'm clearly just a mug for punishment :clown:

Obviously, to go from a DC5 back to a Renault ;) . Although a 225 was close to top of the list of what car I was gona get after the Cup. I just couldn't be doing with having to put up with poor customer service from every dealer I visited.

Hopefully the meg won't have as many probelms as my Cup, in which case you should be fine!

Yer same here when I got the DC5, was tempted by a new 225 Cup at the time, but my heart lead me to the DC5.

But now I've had it the R26 was a nice all rounder choice.

Umm sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Renault Wilson's in Epsom, Surrey......................they should all be lined up against the wall and shot.........no blindfolds......and then fed to the pigs.

From reading the stories above it's no wonder people don't want to take their cars to the stealers.

At least speacialists know what they are doing !

£70 for a fauly finding charge they should have warned you about hcne why they couldn't charge you.

However £170 to fix it isn't unbelivable after all £70 for the daignostic then 1.5 hours labour maybe to find the fault and fix it.

Mate,

It's right next to the oil filter, I'm no mechanic and I found it in 1 minute just looking under the bonnet.

Trust me, it was a total rip off - it took me 15 mins max to locate and fix!

So why didn't you do it in the beginning?

Anyway only just notice it said you bough it september so infact no warently charge could have been imposed and it should have been fixed under warently for free anyway.

^^^^^^^^ the warrenty should have covered that as it is not a wear and tear item and why did they ask you to book it it under warrenty if they had an idea it was going to be chargable?
that dealer seems bad Ren Wolves changed my cat after 2 years no problem

When I first bought mine back in February I booked it in at my dealers for a few niggles sorting out.
I got brake fluid topped up, handbrake adjusted/tightened, bonnet sound deadening refitted and washer jet replaced. Oh and the use of their courtesy car for 24 hours.

The price, FREE!! :approve:

I really believe it's the luck of the draw with dealers and I would only ever use one on personal recommendation from someone I knew. :)
