How long before 172 Cup's...

u might be right there but the good ones should hold there money better and the s**t will just bounce about getting raped even more.

I've had mine from new and is now 3 years old and only done 21k miles I don't think I'll ever sell it! may even end up as a track day car when worth as little as you suggest, just what it was originally designed for!!!

Surely they've reached their full depreciation value by now!

Look at other hot hatches, even some Punto GTs are still 3k

I think they will..... they have a bit of cult status among small groups of petrol heads but made no where near the impact of the Williams on the general public.

They weren't a limited edition and have essentially (in the eyes of joe bloggs) been superceded by the 182 Cup.

They'll probably not drop below a few grand for a really good one..... but due to the appeal of the car and the type of owner there are very few of these.

They'll certainly make a second hand bargain......

True ^ but I think true enthusiast know that the trophy superceded the 172 Cup.

The true enthusiast yes. But to Joe Bloggs (and some people on here!) the 182 is newer and has a higher number thus is better. lol.

Yep I agree.

You have to remember Clio's on here sell for stupidly low amounts (Ice to Eskimos). There is one for sale for £5.5k in Cars for sale, thats absurd. Even in an auction he'd get that much. 3k Cups are a fair way off IMO.

...hit £3k second hand?

12 months?
18 months?

If and when they do...what are my chances of finding an unmolested one?

I'll be in the same dilemma next summer, just hope I find a well maintained lowish mileage example.

Depends, mine is well looked after and has attracted offers of £7500, despite being the same age (nearly 3 years) and mileage (25,000) of some on here that are not even selling for little over £6000. And I need a wheel refurb!

They will level off at an average of £5k in the next few years I think depending on age/mileage/condition. Surprising though, it's the last car without any electronic assistance from a major manufacturer so you would expect a certain market for it, maybe people are scared of it for that very reason?!

i've had mine 3 years in september and its only got 13k on the clock :) i'll have mine for years and years it'll end up as a midnight run car plenty of power and totally stealth

Mine hasnt been too bad... Bought it at 13k miles and 2 years old in October 2004. Its now nearly 4 years old, has 31k on it, and would still be worth 6-6.5k...

This time next year I would expect them to be at about 5k and probably level off there.

Because they are fairly specialist, it often takes a while to sell them, but there are and always will be buyers about.

Rather than sell mine if the insurance was cheap enough I think I would buy another to use as a track car if prices are falling but silver though.

Agree

That's the way the car market works..people see a newer reg plate and a few extra numbers and are willing to pay more.

I bet there are plenty of 172s in much better condition than some newer 182s

Not necessarily, RS1800 was newer than Fiesta RS Turbo and the Turbo still fetches more

We're talking about much newer cars here though mate. Maybe be when the prices bottom this will be tru of the Clios...

Always did fetch more though, similar situation, the turbo was quicker so people wanted that not the rs1800, but joe bloggs went and bought the 1800 brand new, but when it came to resale time, they lost out

Maybe so. But that wont happen here.

The RS1800 was s**t.

None of the renaultsport Clios are. They may differ slightly, but they're essentially the same car.

I believe that the only Clio that will hold it's value above the others will be the Trophy.

how is it absurd? i need to sell it and fast thats all! simple Economic theory states that a product is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it and not what 'you' think it is worth:rolleyes:

if you took a look at Glasses (traders official price guide) or ask Renault how much they would offer for your cup you would be suprised at how little they say! as a general rule of thumb you can get a valuation through Parkers and then knock 10% off to reflect the Glasses trade value.

part of the trouble is that a lot of independent car garges have no idea how much they go for and price them up based on the Full Fat version as some of the trade books dont even list the Cup model! thats part of the reason why prices are being pulled down on them. The other is that the car market seems pretty dead anyway because i have a few friends that are selling different makes and models all struggling to sell at the moment.......

its difficult to tell the reasons why as well as there have been a number of bank holidays where people go away, now the World Cup and then tennis that could have an influence of whether people are looking or not. the other reason could be that people are being more cautious with their money so are less willing to part with their cash....... this would be questionable though seeing as interest rates are still low and high street retailers are still seeing spending increasing......
