How long till 197s start to dip below trophy values?

  200 cup & 106 GTi
What do you think?

They are getting nearer and nearer now! And i've always wanted a 197, hopefully in a year or so if/when i want to change cars that's what i'll be doing.

Residuals on the trophy are holding up very well, the prices seem to have plateaued and most are having the expensive work done around this age. Whereas the 197 isn't a limited edition etc, so it's not holding it's value so well!

I reckon in approx 6-10 months good condition early 197s will be the same price as good condition trophys.

Think you could be correct there.
197's now between £8000 and £9500 for a early one.
Trophy's between £6500 and £8000.
Think the Trophy will hold its value better than a standard 197, i.e. not the cup ot R27.
Think given 12month the 197's will be the same if not lower than the Trophy.
Time will tell.

I don't think the Trophys will stay above 7k forever.

Miles will bring them down I think, plus cambelts will be due next year on all trophys.

This said, there are a few 197's are sub 9k

Isn't the cambelt even more expensive for a 197 than for a 182?

My trophy had the cambelt etc done @ rentech a few months ago, so that's over and done with and can only affect resale positively. Most people on the trophy forum are having their front dampers refurbished too!

+1, i think only the concourse top nick low milage trophies will hold their value, i cant see a situation where a trophy with say 90k miles will be worth more than a standard 197 with 60k miles on the clock etc any time soon unless it was mint.

tbh, i think people are dreaming.

a low mileage trophy will always be worth a bit of money, same as a low mile R27 for example.

but the normal trophy used as an everyday car with average miles for its age will just depreciate as normal tbh. it will probably have a small advantage over a similiar year/miles 182 for example.

they all go down in the end ;) apart from the 2k garaged example that has never been used.

The cam belt is merely a £400 job. Hardly expensive. For £800 you could have the Sachs refurbished back to new and the cam/aux belt replaced with an oil/filter change.

I know its not expensive as its mandatory anyway so people in the market for one will desire it be done when there in the market late this year/early next year

But then you have to ask yourself will people want a 197 with 25 to 30k on the clock or a relativley low mile trophy with the belt change due?

It is difficult to say where values will be because of the economy:S

It depends on whether a Trophy picks up that classic status and a bit of supply & demand I guess. The limited numbers will help. But then the Williams has not held up that well.

I used to have an E30 M3 about 6 years ago and now ALL E36 M3's are worth less than E30's and some E46's. These cars are bigger, faster & more refined than the orginal. But more fun?

Regardless of Mileage & condition.

Racing Puma's & P1 Imprezas also seem to be holding & I would put the Trophy in the same category of 'Special'

To go off topic a little the only hot-hatches I could say are a safe depreciation proof purchase are ---

Escort Cosworth
Saphire Cosworth
Sierra Cosworth
Focus RS

Etc and so on

  200 cup & 106 GTi
Minis are virtually depreciation proof too! Proper ones that is...

All old german cars too, the old M3s have gained 4k in value since i was going to buy one :(

Except the Focus RS isn't depreciation proof and the only other hatch back there is the Escort...

...and the Seirra's can be had for dirt cheap as most are sheds.
