How many air filters?! :s

my friend had one of them cheap universal air induction kits in his garage and we thought wed stick it on my clio to see if it changed any thing. Popped the bonnet and looked to see where it need to go, found out it wouldn't fit due to the air box being oval instead of round. when i took the air box off i noticed inside the part the box attaches was another foam filter?

is this the part induction kits fit to?

will it harm the engine running it with out an air box due to it having another filter further inside?
its a 1.6 if it means any thing.

air filters are the for a reason, remove them an youll have more problems than what it was worth

mines got some sort of box in the pipe leading to the filter, not too sure what it does though!!
