How many variations of xenons are there?

I know it sounds stupid, but when I've been looking around at xenons (I am after the 172 black xenons to replace the 182 units) ive noticed there are a few different ones!

i know obviously you have the grey 182 xenons :dead: and there are the black 172 xenons, but I'm pretty sure there are some 172 xenons that are blacker than others, some are like a dark grey?!

anyone shed some light on this?

I have found a few examples,

182 grey:

172 dark grey??:

172 black:

can quite clearly see that the strip (parts that meets the wing) Is a lot blacker on the bottom lights!?

Right, i can confirm there ARE 3 DIFFERENT types of xenons.

I have the grey insert xenons as standard on my 182, wanted to 'upgrade' to the black xenons as found on the 172's.
finally took the plunge and bought some.

They were accidentally picked wrong and I received both black inserts but they were two different lamps.

The band that meets the wing is grey on one and black on the other, despite them both being the darker units on the inside.




Both are brand spanking new!

They're just black or grey

As people have said the black does fade a bit over the years - but there was only 2different colours

So how do you explain the pictures I put above then? How can one pair fade in a box? Both have roughly the same manufacture date on them (give or take a few weeks) and both lamps are BRAND NEW

No idea, not bothered enough to look lol.

That picture, to me, looks like the adhesive used to stick the lens/glass/cover/whatever to the rest of the light is different, nothing else.

Lol it's not adhesive! It is part of the lens,

182's have a grey strip the same colour as the inside of the lamp, And 172's have two different strips. I agree the insides of the lamps are the same colour, I'm not denying that. But they are different versions.

I've answered my own question with hard evidence and the info is there for anyone else now.

Yeah got them right third time lucky lol they sent out some mor but they were broke in transit, so got some more sent out with 'FRAGILE' plastered all over the boxes, and they arrived fine!

Customer service was great, can't complain at all!

Where'd you pick these ones up from?

There's only two types. Some just look different in photos.

With those band things, I've noticed some look darker than others too. But this is Renault we're dealing with...
