How much abuse can a 197 engine take?

I have to admit that i am not the most mechanically minded! Over weekend redlined my 197 several times. Can the engine take this indefinetly and if it went would it be covered by warranty?

Well if it's anything like the 1*2's then i'd say it can take a lot of abuse

Once warmed up i drive my 172 very hard.

if they dont want you to hot the limiter on it then they should take the "Sport" sign off the back of it in my view.

give it some hammer and worry when its breaks buddy

That’s the point of the limited to stop you from doing any damage. Although the more you stress the engine the faster it will wear out and something is more likely to go. You should always try not to hit the limiter anyway it not the fastest way to get where your going.

As for it being covered under the warranty yes it should be just because you drive it hard doesn’t mean they can tell you to f off. As long as you are not intentionally trying to brake it, or messing around with it mechanically, that’s when you void you warranty.

Its meant to be a sport, Renault say the cars are capable todo 140mph+, go on track days etc etc, if it can't take a little bit of stick what chance does it have.

I reckon the F4R engine won't take the force of a nuclear explosion. But it probably could take the strain of a really, really, really, really fat man or woman sitting on it.

Does that help?

Well you have to remember....to get anywhere in a 197 you have to rag the balls off it 24/7...being the fatboy that it is.

Awww Seb....you little battler you!

You could at least get the half decent 197 variant and stand yourself in better stead...;)

We are prob gonna sort out the next Isle Of Man trip soon.....then you can put your money where your keyboard is!

We didn't have a single breakdown!
Even my lightweight, hardcore, NON climate control style heater unit warmed me up.

And i think only 1 Maccy Dee's was had on the last morning.....im guessing the island won't cater for your tastes Seb.
Don't think many places serve Foie Gras, Duck A L'Orange and Dom Perignon 82....so you'll have to eat with us peasants.

As someone has already said, the engine is the strongest part of the car.

It's the rest of it you've got to worry about. :dapprove:

All day everyday matey...there was an article somewhere that the 197 engine was ran for 8 weeks solid at maximum RPM on a bench and all it asked was for oil and fuel obviously...

Same matey...its begs for it!!

  clio 182 + cup packs
the limiter is there to prevent you from over reving it and damaging it, so hitting the limiter shouldnt damage it.

but it is french and things will break :dapprove:

the engine is used in the clio cup racers, say no more they. are constantly being driven hard thats all they do and engine failure on them is rare.
