how much for a second hand 172 engine?

a friend of mine has blown up his 172 its a mk 2 03 reg, can you just put any engine in or does it have to be from a phase 2? how much is he looking at for one and where does he get one from? because we cant find them anywhere

The engine are the same bar the intake manifold/.throttle body so as long as you use the old one or its the same type ie phase 2 there no issues.
