how much for new key and recoding

  clio 1.4RT
hi there,

i got my car (1998 1.4RT CLIO) on the very cheap and it only came with one key.
Now i know i need to get the dealer to do this job but how much are we talking about here?????? ok so much for a new key then so much to reprogram it?

im thinking ....
1x key = £10
1x hour labour to reprogram = £45

am i thinking wrong????

cheers

My last key was £60 odd from Renault, £5 for the blade and about £30 for programming. Came to around £100 all in.
They order the keys in from France iirc.

*edit* that's for remote central locking, is yours RCL?

Daz.... did they cut the key for you too???? or was it a blank and you had to do it yourself????

also what if i bought a used key...... could i get dealer to just reprogram the key????

You cannot reprogram a key, the ones on eBay are worthless trust me.
As for the blade they did everything and handed me a complete key. :)

So so many threads on this, you have to buy a new one from Renault end off. (probably)

It would do Reanult dealers out of £millions every year! ;)

Why would they make an expensive essential part infinitely reusable?

Ok, why ask on here, read the advice that's posted and then ignore it and phone the dealer to ask anyway? :banghead:

Trust me if they were reprogrammable don't you think I would have done it rather than spending £100 on a key? :)

I've seen this posted time and time again as DrRollo has said.

Personally I always speak to service as they know me, they will then order the part for me through their parts department :)
