How much more BHP?

  182 Full Fat
Just got H&S exhaust system fitted to the 182, it has a 2.5inch bore pipe with 3.5inch exits. I also have a K&N 57i induction kit (which I know sucks in HOT air!) Looking to replace with a BMC or Viper soon
Just wondered if anyone knew how many more BHP my car should be pushing out of the Fly wheel and drive wheels?

Standard figures are

179 (182metric) BHP at the Flywheel
and
159 at the drive wheels IIRC??

thanks :sleepy:

Maybe 149 atw.

With those mods, assuming the have actually given you a gain, you may be in the region of 170bhp. Seriously.

I was hoping a gain of 5 bhp would be possible from the drive wheels, but don't know if Im being optimistic. Does anyone have the figure of a standard 182 then? :S

Best bet imo, keep the exhaust, get a decat then get a decent panel filter.

I still stand by the fact that induction kits, literally suck and should be left to the 18 year old corsa boys. Honestly really cannot get my head around the use of the IK on the clio RS, they simply don't help at all and frequently lose you 3-4BHP and introduce flat spots.

The only way to properly introduce an IK to the clio RS is to get a custom remap on the rollers and have your AF/R corrected, otherwise most of the time you end up running lean and losing power.

nelson- i was the one who organised the group buy with h&s before.
Ive recently added a decat pipe to it, which i got from BB tuning- now i have had it on the car 8 months and the engine management light has STILL not come on.
Also had their ecu reflash done and it runs like a dream now

  MK2 Audi TT - 2.0T dsg.
I'm thinking of a few more mods soon, with something done to the ECU too.
Mods so far are, SS Zorst with decat and ITG panel filter, drives great with just these 2 mods on though.

I was unaware of the bad press that IK's had when I got my 57i, but looking to get a viper soonish. I know they are 200 notes at 2modified.:hail:

May have to consider the de-cat pipe route over the next few months, but for now I am happy with the new Cat back H&S system. And Love the noise! Suppose the de-cat option scares me into thinking it will be too noisy!

Pannel filter. Dont WASTE 200 quid on a viper kit!

Remember book power figures aren't always accurate. There are a lot of 172/182's out there running less!

IK's wont give you any increase in power. FACT

It may improve throttle responce, and remove flat spots, only if it has a good supply of cold air. A pipe air feed wont help an open IK as at low speeds it wont supply enough cold air, and at higher speeds the airflow thru the engine bay negates the need for the air feed pipe.

Vipers and such are good, but IMO there is no replcement for a good pannel filter in the std air box!

I agree with all of the above, except the comment about removing flatspots. On the contrary they will introduce more flatspots unless you get it remapped because the fuelling and air/fuel ratio will be incorrect at certain speeds, this may mean your getting to much air and too little fuel which basically causes a loss in power and...flatspots. Oh and did i also mention the loss in torque? ;)

Seriously, dont waste your money on an IK, and thats an unbiased view - they sound great, they look great but as they say...all show, no go!

Save your £200, get a decat (honestly wont be that much louder, just a more raw sound and perhaps some pops on overrun) and then spend some money on some Eibach proline springs, if your still running standard. They you car is perfect. Or save the extra for a group N ecu and a remap.

viper + decat + remap will see decent gains

on average i see 182's do 145ish @ wheels

me got a viper , im happy wid it tbh ........defo louder , maybe a bit more bhp but well worth the money :approve:

  V6, Trackhawk, GTS
Pannel filter or maxogen.

I lost power with IK and zorst. Don't always expect gains.

  Turbos.
I think we've found a remap is a must really, which starts to make the quest for 10bhp a bit expensive really...

That's why i think it's best to just get an exhaust for aural pleasure and then spend the rest on tracckdays!

Yeh, 10bhp ends up costing about £600-700, which on some turbo cars would see you 80bhp...Gotta draw the line somewhere i guess.

Good point. Main reason i got exhaust was for looks and the sound it makes. Very impressed

  GDI Demo 182, Rsi Spider
viper etc, will give improvments in throttle response and perhaps a couple of bhp.. but not much...

Better than my currect 57i K&N IK tho, as at least it is semi-enclosed
