How much oil needed?

  Black Mk2 172
For an oil change? bit of a daft question maybe, but ive not changed the oil on my 172 before , so went out and bought some valvoline 5w-40 (4 litre container)

I have a sneaking suspicion that this isnt going to be enough? :S

s**t , place where i bought it only sells in 4 litre containers of valvoline , they do sell other brands of 5w-40 oil in smaller 1L bottles though? is it ok to mix or not do you think?

I wouldnt mix personally, try a different motor factors mate, i buy 7.4 litres worth of oil at a time, leaves me a couple of litres for topping up in between services, which on the 172 i do every 7 or 8000, i wouldnt trust renos service times..

You'll be ok to mix it mate . 4.75 litres without the oil filter change . Its a sod to get at so remove the fuel rail cover to gain better access , 2 x 10mm bolts .

The book does say 4.75l but I recently changed my oil and put the full 5Litres in and stll on some surfaces the in car level shows it need more 1 extra mark!
So I would say a little over 5litres

Rob.

Your best bet is to go off the dipstick not the computer for the oil level .
