How on Earth Does in insurance work

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
I currently drive a 1.2 16v Clio, And have been looking at upgrading to a convertable, But thought insurance would be rediculous.

Anyway quite like the look of this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/549979.htm

Its got a bigger engine, Its worth more, And its a cab.

Heres my insurance:

VAUXHALL ASTRA FL52KJY 37 £912.63

no claims bonus 1 Year engine size cc 1598
cover required Comprehensive number of drivers 2
voluntary excess None use required Social & Commuting

RENAULT CLIO BC04 HVN 22 £1,468.72

no claims bonus 1 Year engine size cc 1148cc
cover required Comprehensive number of drivers 2
voluntary excess None use required Social & Commuting

So the bigger engined more expensive cab is £500 less to insure??

Insurance companies are a law unto themselves.

and they're assholes.

Takes into account how many are crashed/stolen per year on that model,
for example young drivers like myself more likely to own a clio then an astra... if you get me.

oh my god.

The Turbo'd Version! with over 3 times the power of my current car is £100 a year more to insure!!!!

A large factor is the price of repair.....

Astra would be much cheaper to repair if both cars suffered similar damage.....

Edit----And it's not French.....

Insurance baffles me! Whilst browsing around the other day i pulled out the following quotes for me, 26, 5 years + NCB, but 1 pending claim that wasnt my fault (liability has been accepted, ive been paid out, but my insurance havent recovered the costs yet)

172 - £462
Trophy - £581
Nissan 350z - £625
Bentley Continental GT - £890
TVR T350 - £1006
Aston Martin DB9 - £1292
CLIO V6 - £1233

Tell me how a DB9 is only £60 more than a V6, and that a Bentley is cheaper than a V6 !

Who knows!

When I was 19, I went from a Fiesta Zetec-S (1.6 103bhp) to a Punto GT (1.4T 130bhp) and I got a refund of around £40 when I changed over on my policy.

I personally think insurance companies pick a random number.

The v6 is a proper supercar! Im sure insurance companies just pick random numbers out of the air!

Is your car heavily modified (like your avatar pic) and the quote includes all mods declared?
