How reliable are 182s?

  Tesla MP3 2021
if had mine since oct 2005 and its has been in renault 6 times...
since ive had the 182 its constantly lost coolant, the breaks were completely fecked after 4miles of owning the car and now it is getting a new head gasket due to water getting into the oil and the stop the cooland leaking.....but tbh ive never had anything like stop working or like working 1 day and not the other and so on...
mine seem to big porblems rather that little:(

  2002 White RS 172.
Thanks for all the response, it seems the general concensous is that they seem to be pretty solid with a couple of exceptions, which i'd imagine is normal for most cars. I'll be getting something with relatively low miles, so hopefully if their have been any blips they'll have been ironed out by the previous owner!

I was also considering a Civic R for the reliablity factor, but i find them uninspiring to look at, and it seems everyone in the world has one. Even my grandmother. Probably.

  182 cup pack
I have mine for 5 months, bought it brand new in January 2006(basically in December, but plates came out in January...

Very happy with it,no rattling the car looks solid enough,1 problem was an oil sensor that was fixed in 5 mins from my local Renault...

Kms till now 6700.

Imports do have 3 years AA assistance . I used em a couple of weeks ago .

If you have any questions on warranties or AA assistance contact Renault customer service on Tel. 08000 723372 .

Also as said full 3 years warranty ( 2 years manufacturer , 1 year dealer ) on all imports except from Cyprus or Holland .

lol, that's who I contacted! - Renault customer services on that number last week and was told I wasn't entitled to AA cover through Renault as I owned an import (originally destined for France so shouldn't be any issues surrounding that). WTF, does it depend what day you call as to what answer you get??? It's a bloody joke owning a Renault sometimes.

MRBILLYUK - was that Renault Customer services that told you that? And what country was your import originally bound for? I'm going on the phone again to them this morning - I want my 3 years of cover to start NOW for the next 3 years as they've neglected to inform me I had it from new

Ha ha you've got to be joking, couple of exceptions more like it's the norm, is it the normal to have to take a car to a dealers once every two months? Most unreliable car I've owned, wouldn't be too much of a problem if the dealers weren't f**king s**t and could actually fix anything first time. I'd never buy another Renault again!

Sounds a little weird that Ally . I'm not a rocket scientist but a right hand drive destined for France sounds a little strange to me .

I bought my 182 in February of this year from motorpoint . The sales guy told me i had 2 years manufacturers warranty and no AA assistance .

So i phoned Ren UK and they asked me for my vin number . They informed me i had 33 months left on the warranty (something to do with when it came into the country ) and 33 months AA assistance left . They sorted out all the details .

I was an AA member anyway so that was automatically frozen .I phoned the AA a little later just to confirm it was frozen and it was .

When i needed the AA the other week i only had my original AA phone number in my phone so i phoned them and explained that i wanted Renault AA assistance , she checked my details , name , reg number and that was that . 12 mins later a guy from the AA turned up .

Try phoning em again , maybe a different person will have more of an idea . Let us know how you get on .

Cheers :) . I also bought mine from Motorpoint at the start of April 2004 but only recently found out that my warranty expires in Jan 2007 - as you say it's something to do with the date the vehicle was brought into the country (that's what Renault told me). When I meant originally destined for France I meant it was ordered by Motorpoint directly from the factory but has the stamp of a French (Parisian) dealer on the paperwork that arrived with it (so has the normal warranty, etc. - it's certainly not Dutch or Cypriot) - thought that was the normal for imports?

All I can do is try Renault Customer Cervices again and hope to get a different person. Even if I get cover until January 2007 I'll be happy - I really need it at the moment, 5 trips to the dealer in 4 months and it's still not fixed... :dead:

Hope you get it sorted Ally . Ren cust services have always been pretty helpful for me in the past ( touch wood ) ;)

  Renaultsport Clio 182
Mine is on 9k, it has a lot of rattles from all around the car, I dont know where to start with them. But apart from the occasional creak from the rear suspension it has been very reliable and a joy to own.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
couldnt be bothered to look at all the posts but in response to the posts on page 1 they all come with 3 years warranty and 3 years aa cover unless they are from cyprus. phone renault to find out more. i phoned renault to ask something and they told me i had this 3 year cover and sent me the details and i have an import.
all you need to do is phone renualt and theyl confirm what country the car was meant for using the vin code then verify you have the full 3 years cover.

also in respone to reliability the renaults engines are amazingly reliable as they are shared with nissan so very unlikely to go wrong. its just the rest of the french parts which go wrong non engine related.

  Skoda Fabia Vrs 180b
my car went into the garage today. apparently the catalytic convertoer has gone so they are replacing the exhaust. They dont have the parts however so it wont be ready until tomorrow.

Also got a big rattle above the dash which I think is the front windscreen air vent, the passenger seat squeeks if there is nobody sat in it and after you have been driving for a while the clutch feels like it is grinding against something when you press it.

Hopefully they will all be fixed when it comes back but I wont hold my breath! I took it to Reg vardy (against my better judgement) as I couldnt get a courtesy car at the dealership i usually use for another 2 weeks and the 24 miles to that dealership is a bit too far to travel when u live in the sticks! Couldnt get a courtesy car from vardy's either but it is a bit easier for me to get to and from.

car is a 54 reg with 12,5k on btw

AA cover: I finally I got an explanation of this from Renault Customer Services regarding imports...

If your clio is an import having been registered in another country (any country) then shipped to the UK for sale, then you are NOT entitled to AA cover.

But, if your clio is a "direct-from-factory import" then this is classed as a UK car, according to Renault, and you ARE entitled to the 3 years of AA cover. This is what my car is: a direct-from-factory import, purchased via Motorpoint, but not with full UK spec (i.e. no factory alarm, locking wheelnuts, etched windows, etc).

This was all confirmed by "Michael" at Renault Customer Services this morning, although he did say he wasn't sure on the whole import situation. At least that's me getting AA cover for the remaining of my 3 years :). Cheers for the info MRBILLYUK and Ross M, saved me a few quid!

So, at least if your Clio isn't reliable you know you'll (mostly) have AA cover ;)
