How to change ABS ring?

Ive sourced the abs ring and getting someone to fit it for me, however... renault have told me when i rang up for the part that "the driveshaft might need heating to fit the abs ring" ... is this true? apparently the fit is quite tight...

anyone have any ideas?

yes you have to heat the ring with a blow torch or something like that so that it can be fitted. It goes red hot and expands then when its in place and starts to cool down it ends up being a tight fit. Ive changed both my ABS rings within the last 6 months as the old ones both had hairline cracks in 2 or 3 places. I didnt however do it myself as I would prob balls it up.. my dads mate a mechanic did it for me for a fiver each!

you getting it on ebay? thats where I got mine for a tenner each I think! make sure you get one with the correct number of teeth! being a 1.2 mine had to have 26 teeth or for the likes of a 182 its 44 teeth.. I noticed a big improvement once replaced! it also corrected my speedometer which had been way out for months beforehand!

they dont need to be heated to fit, just carefully tap it all the way round and take your time, they are very soft and crack easily.

It may not be absolutely necessary to heat them, but its def the quicker option.. after removing wheels, discs etc the guy who did mine had the old ones off and new ones fitted on both sides within 15mins.. id imagine talking your time to carefully tap them on takes alot longer. With one of mine even after being heated it was an extremely tight fit so without heating there wouldnt have a chance it would have gone on.

we swap several a day to match up driveshafts to different year vehicles and not many people have the facilities to heat them, you can take one if in about 30 seconds with a punch and hammer and same to refit.
