how to diagnose air leak

How do I find out if my car has an airleak in the inlet manifold?
what would the symptoms be?

I made a mistake when mounting my RS2 and removed the releasebutton from the brake booster vacuum connector (because the sensor I thought had to go in there didnt fit....I seem to have a knack for making things fit....:()
I still put the vacuum hose in and it is locked in place so the connector still works...can I now assume it is sealed aswell?

Fairy liquid around the suspected area? Run the car, blip throttle a few times, if there's air coming out of there, you'll see bubbles?
