how to disable windows live messenger XP pro

anyone know the registry key to deny users access to this feature / program?

gpedit > admin templates messenger disable doent stop this.

If they are talking to the outside world, just block the port on the firewall (port 135 ).

Or just uninstall?

neither of these options are viable. i need to be able to disable it in the registry on a local pc.

no firewalls installed & uninstall would not be a permanent option.

should be able to do this via group policy on your server.
GP's in 2000 are a b**ch, so hopefully you have 2003

these are all for messenger and not messenger live. dont have access to server, so need to find a way to lock it off locally.
