How to drop the rear axle?

Car  S4 Avant
Easy thing to do? I'm currently part way through fitting my latest exhaust, old exhaust is off, new one about to go on, in one peice.

If some one could let me know the quickest and easiest way to drop the rear axle I'd really appreciate it.

These two?

Well you could, but the ones the other end of the dampers connected to the rear axcel would be far easier.

Sound a silly thing to say m8y but make sure you have a trolley jack supporting the axle and lower it down with that or else you may damage the rear calipers and discs etc etc :) they are 18mm bolts btw that hold the damper and axle together :) saves fafing about for the right socket

Ah, I have my ways of doing it ;)

Do it!

Once I've got my new zorst on, I might be able to get away from work.

The bottom bolts that connect to the shocks are seized solid, so I'm going for the top bolt approach

The bottom bolts will come off Dave...

Just use a breaker bar, get some leverage... Will be alot easier than undoing the top nuts!!!

Don't have a breaker bar handy :(

Unless you fancy a drive over to ashbourne and give me a hand?

How come it's harder to do it through taking the top nuts off?

19mm iirc as their the same size at the wheel nuts, do they do a 18mm socket? :S

hahaha.... I actually would come over, but I am in bed now! ;)

you need 2 people ideally if you remove the top nut, it is more tricky to put back together

Quiet 182 boy :rasp:

Unless you're willing to come give me a hand?

Corrected ;)

Dave i remember the times you had an explosive device in the boot of your fiesta so shut up xx

Gray... the special dogging spot we found. Our special spot? :)

This is theeee special spot, only 3 other people know of ;)

But I shall let you in on the secret for the price of x1 sexual favour (Dave, Addz and Pepsi all had to pay)

Top bolts removed, axle dropped, springs fallen out, shocks splayed all over the fecking place.

....but exhaust on :approve:

All back together, springs back in, shocks bolted down, just got to stick the decat on, and seal the system with halfords finest fire gum
