Humming from interior light

Picked up my 172 today :D and once home and familiarising myself with it all I noticed a whirring/humming noise coming from the interior light when the ignition is turned on.

Whats up there?

Is it some kind of sensor for the climate control? There are two little speaker type areas in front and behind the light on the roof. The noise seems to be coming from the one nearest the windscreen. Sounds like a small fan that needs lubrication.

I think theres a small fan in there to pass the cabin air over the auto climate control temp sensor, warranty please!

Its probably like my pc cpu fan, mine sounds like a strangled duck for about 30 secs when I power up if the rooms cold, might just be the cold weather.

Warranty might be a problem. I am second owner although car just over 2 years old it was an EU import so think it only had 1 year warranty. I think I can get the full 3 years just by asking Renault, but cant remember where I heard that. Probably read it on here somewhere.

There is a little renault gremlin up there who keeps an eye on things. He lays dormant for a while, humming a little tune in French to pass the time. If he senses that you are enjoying 172 ownership too much, he then causes a few little rattles here and there.

Be careful though, if you let them get to you, he thrives on this and causes larger, character testing faults that destroy the dream, and with it you start wondering about pastures new (usually in the form of German build quality, and Jap engine reliability)

One gremlin isnt so bad. The Hyundai I just pxed has 5000 of the buggers hidding inside the interior panels.

btw how do you hum in French?

its a "Micro turbine" apparently

Had roof lining stripped out three times (once for them to say, yep makes a noise but we havent got the part) to replace that dam little fan (thankfully under warrantee) and it was just as bad if not worse when they replaced it.

they then showed my a brand new Clio that made the same noise, so I couldnt really complain after that.
