I’m stuck with wiring up an amp!!

Right, I have got as far as the rear seats with my wires. How do you get them through to the boot so its all neat? Also, can you use one of the bolts on the boot floor at the back for the earth? They are gold if that helps!

Black bar? Do you mean the black bar for the seat belt? I tried threading the cables through, but they just get stuck and curl up. Did you take the seats out to do it?

Yeah the black bar that sits at the back of the boot. Take the seat bottom out and bring the seat back down you can then lift it out slighty, put the cable under this and then round the side of the bar. Also make sure that your power cable and your RCA leads are down opposite sides of the car to stop interference. Let me know how you get on.

make sure you run the rca/speaker wires down one side and the power cable down the other side

the big black plastic bar at the back of the boot is for the luggage net, if you have ICE in your boot then IMHO it renders it completely useless, remove it with a 17mm (or 19mm) socket, then use the 10mm nut between the rear seat split for the earth

I did run the RCA and speaker wire on opposite sides to the power and i get interference. Any ideas? The only place that the wires cross is at the amp once, could this be it or maybe intereference from the alternator?

Yup that is the same bolt ive used.

I never realised that tou hadnt reached the back seat yet. What to do is use a torx socket T40 iirc undo the seat belt bolt pull that out then push the wires up under the plastic then you can put the bolt back in. Keep running it under the plastic till its underneath the rear seat then do what I said yesterday and it should be cool. Good luck mate

When I was buying my amp wiring kit, the guy told me to run the power down one side, the RCA and remote down another, and the speaker wires down the middle of the car, so you dont get interference

Yes thats the bolt to use. Youll need a ring with a 10mm hole.

I recommend finding a big washer to put the ring on top of because the hole in the black bar is pretty big. So it goes black bar -> washer -> cable ring -> bolt.

As for the wires, you run them pretty much along the join between the two bits of plastic! I unscrewed the seatbelt anchor to give me more room to work. Then the bit that jolts out and looks like its going under the seats is where they come out from under the plastic. From that point on, just tape them down and run down the side of the black bar in the boot. There is loads of room, ive got about 11 wires down 1 side of mine!

Cheap RCA leads can also cause this - or at least not stop it!

If you do a quick search on google, you can find a flowchart to diagnose interference. Basically you just need to unplug the RCA leads from the amp and see if you still get noise.

If you do, you know its getting into the amp itself or the speaker cables. If not, you know its between the amp and the HU.

Unplug the RCA leads from the HU and put them back into the AMP. Do you still get noise? If not, its probably the HU / its earth. If you do, its the RCE leads. Get some decent ones!

Yeah always spend as much as you can on the wiring. It makes a big difference. I reckon about 10% of your total spend should be on wiring as a guide.

have you got 2 amps by any chance ?..........if so are they earthed at the same or different points

The ring on my earth cable wasnt big enough to fit on the bolt in the picture i posted, so I took bambams advice and used the nut between the rear seat split.

Ive got all the wires into the boot now, but I have to find someone with a torque rench to undo the seatbelt bolt.

All I have to do now is get the power cable through the bulkhead! The guy that fitted my cd changer today told me that drilling a new hole would void the rust warrenty. He reckoned the best way to do it is to make a hole where the wiring loom goes into (near the fuse box). What does everyone else reckon?

Cheers guys. They are autoleads RCA leads so they shouldnt be that bad. Ill have a go with unplugging the wires to see where the noise is coming from. I only have one amp, if its not grounded correctly would this cause any noise or not?? The noise is actually a ticking with the revs of the engine so it doesnt happen when running of the battery.

Thanks again, wado

Follow the bonnet release cable. You can put the power cable through with it if you just cut the grommet a little bit.

As for the seatbelt bolt, just use a normal socket set. Go and buy the bit from halfords, thats what I did - my normal bits werent big enough.
