I Am An Idiot....

  EP3 Civic Type R
Just spent 4 hours cleaning the Cup- it looks lovely. Cleaned inside too, then noticed my magic tree was tangled around my rear view mirror and it wouldn't come off- so I took the mirror off... not much pressure, it popped off and along with a nice loud crack it was off.

This was followed by lots of swearing when I realised where the rear view mirror sits the windscreen had cracked in 4 dirctions. I know for a fact there was no crack/chip there before so I'm amazed at how little pressure or movement it's taken it too crack.

Least I'm fully comp with the windscreen- I hate cars sometimes- If only I'd let it stay dirty, GRR!

I hate to try and make you feel worse but couldn't you have just cut the elastic string?

Yeah it's boiling here, I don't think it makes a difference.

The string was litterally all tangled behind the mirror, so instead of waving a pair of scissors about I thought it would be easier to just pop off the mirror- I forgot I had a Reno and everything takes twice as long with much more breakage! As said, I am an idiot... you live and learn haha!

Actualy it would have, glass softens up when its heated. Glass, as you know retains heat really well so theres a good chance that had somthing to do with it, not saying you couldnt have done it if it were winter as it really is a nightmare to get the thing off/on again!

do you not lose NCB if you claim???

I don't think so, it may depend on your policy or the issuer though? I'd like to know cus i would rather get a new screen for £50 than get a chip repair done that looks gash

This just proves why women should do all the cleaning and leave anything "complicated" to those with a penis! :p

Die LOL!!!

Danny, guess you have a point there... I still wish I'd not even bothered haha!

You don't lose you NCB for claiming on a windscreen (or at least I don't) as windscreen cover is part of the fully comp cover- you just have to pay an excess which on mine is £70

Glad I'm not the only one! I just don't get how fragile it was and how easy it cracked- I was yet to start using brute force! The splits are in the middle of the glass and you can't feel it from either side, so at least it's water tight etc.

Mirrowned.

Unlucky though, £60 glass excess will be all you'll pay though. It won't affect your NCB either.

Yeh, I'm thankful of the glass cover tbh, as windscreens aren't cheap! I've learned my lesson big time lol. Next time I'll be swinging around a massive pair of scissors to cut anything that's tangled ;)

Awaits the I cut of my fingers thread ;)

The ' I cut my fingers off' thread would be more apt. I will try anything once and not afraid of danger, but I seem to like to break things. There's every possibilty of an amputation! ;)

I've done plenty of hard and successful things on the Clio- the first simple job was the hardest. Beware the magic tree!!!

Good call, easy to replace and not as costly as other things... plus hopefully you had a lot of chips and scratches, so think of it as an excuse to replace the screen!

What a TREEmendous thing to do.

Now you will have to treMENDous it.

(Disclaimer-The above is crap. But not as crap and not cutting the elastic on a Magic Tree air freshener and breaking the windscreen)

Indeed... however, my windscreen can be mended- your sense of humour will always be rubbish!!!

In my defence I was cleaning all my glass and the offending magic tree was wrapped round another air freshner, so, like I said, at the time, it was easier to pop the rear view mirror off to untangle everything! Now I will do things the hard way!

lol you wouldn't think it tho would you?

I would've thought it would be fine but hey you learn a new thing every day :)

talking of this subject (windscreens),

I was driving along yesterday and got a stone chip on my screen which I need to get repaired.

out of curiousity does anybody know how much a new screen would cost privately overall?

it has the automatic lights and rain sensors if this makes any difference!

:)

Bad luck Michelle! I had similar issues last weekend! ;) but yeah £60 is all you'll pay and it wont affect your NCB at all. :)
A new screen to buy privately, with the UV coating and gel pack would set you back around £300 to £400.
