Update from the paint shop. I’ve left them to finish some of the repair work.

Most of it was brought back to the lockup tonight. Very pleased and excited to get it back together.

I’ve still to get the doors and bonnet back.

The new windscreen gets fitted on Wednesday and I’ll be working to carefully put it all back together without scratching any new paint.

I don’t expect the next bit to be exciting. I’ll just be cleaning and putting things back together.

Then off for an MOT. I think some new brakes and a driveshaft will be in order before it will pass.

New windscreen fitted today by Scott-Glaze. Good service. Came from Perth to me and fitted a brand new screen for £200.

Also found some time tonight to get the drivers door abs latch on. Plus the drivers side wing.

Very happy with how it’s looking. Can’t wait to see what it looks like built back up.

Not much in the way of pictures. But with the holidays looking I needed to get my finger out and start buying stuff for the van.

This is when you start to stack up the costs and have to stop yourself going too far.

Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought most of the stuff I need to finish the interior.

Cab carpet set. £280

Sounds deadening and insulation £190

Capet lining and contact adhesive. £150.

No point being cheap now. The inside will be so important to making this van somewhere we actually want to go away in.

If there's any chance of you using it outside of summer, plan for fitting the diesel heater. Absolute game changer. Perfect time to be thinking about it before you've got all the interior in.

Yeah I’m very much up for that.

Still thinking a day van for summer only / me on my own at car events.

Next evolution will be some electrics and a night heater.

Then I might go full camper if we do use it a lot.

Sounds like a good approach. Good to get out and use the van to figure out what you want from it before you spend all the money on the interior. When I first used mine it was a builders van with a camp bed in the back. 😂

Spent most of today messing about with the wheels.

I have stripped one a while back so had to sand back 3 wheels then etch prime them.

Just me that gets a prodrive Impreza feel from the primer?

Also got the sliding door on. Means the van can be moved outside without raining causing any problems. Unfortunately the new rubber seal is causing it not to close properly. I’ll need to figure something out.

I had a few problems with this first attempt. There were a few runs. And some dry spots. Yes it’s a little orange pealy but that can be wet sand and polished out.

So I sanded back the front face and laid them flat. Looking good so far. I’ll let them dry today and see what the end product is like.

That’s the big sexy van got a face finally. I’ve fitted a few other bits like door handles.

Almost time for the MOT. I think I’ll just wait until everything is done inside and out before that though.

One thing though. I’m getting sick of working on this thing now. Just want it done already.

New brakes all round yesterday. Loving how this looks now.

Also got the rock and roll bed done. It needed holes drilling in the floor and strengthener or spreader plates to make it safe. They say you just need to bolt them through with some silicon but I’ve welded them and welded the nuts so it can be tightened down by a one person.

Just a CV boot and it will have an MOT. Then all the interior to do.

Please make it end soon. [emoji85]

I’ve been cracking on with the interior starting with painting the front door cards.

Quite happy with how they have turned out with a 2k matte black. but they do seem to mark easily so they might need a lacquer of some sort.

Then it was a case of the sound deadening and insulation for the rear.

Started like this.

19a85c64b7d474d808da51ae11884985.jpg

Foil backed sound deadening from Dodo matt.

710ae163b83aa714c6102b2ae40b7671.jpg

Then closed cell foam for the insulation.

a95166ec84654e772b23324c9f66c897.jpg

Roof and floor to go. Both layers go on the roof and just the deaden stuff on the floor.

I’ve got a recycled plastic “wool” to go on last just before the ply goes on. I’m off work for a week so that’s a job for next week.

I took the opportunity to take a photo of the van with the clio when I had to use the little car to give the big diesel a jump. Very happy with how they look.

Feels very much like the final stretch.

Wheel arches deadened / insulated.

This took ages but doing it like this means you can lay the stretch carpet straight on to it and it will take the contours of the arch and look nice.

Then insulated the floor, leaving space for where the bed bolts to the floor. I’ve also stuck the thermo fleece stuff and insulated the roof.

That’s where play was haunted. I had my ply side panels delivered but couldn’t screw them on until I get more thermo fleece. I’m collecting some spare from a mate tomorrow so not a disaster. I’m hoping to be at least 50% through the lining tomorrow.

Decent result today got the remaining insulation in the ply panels screwed on and one side of the stretch carpet done. Very pleased with how it’s looking. What people say is true, a very forgiving and easy material to work with.

Passenger side tomorrow then it on to trining the individual trim panels for the sliding door, tailgate and headliner.

Also confirmed today that my van carpet will arrive on Monday. This was a long lead time, ordered in March with 8-10 week estimate. and was starting to get on my tits that it hadn’t arrived. Phoned them this morning and they magically had it ready to post. [emoji4]

To do list:

Headliner
Spotlights
Front carpet
MOT
Camping.

PS I also bought a portable shitter this week. I’ll get some photos us when it’s out the box and set up [emoji23]

Today is MOT day. Progress on the van over the last week or so has seen the interior pretty much finished.

New cab carpet down. Very happy with it.

cfff85f88bd86a3f35f53ceb12bd946a.jpg

Seat back in and bolted down. Excuse the mess.

1f9cede49faff82a6ed4c74a5a271708.jpg

Front seats in. I’ll get a swivel base on the passenger seat in time.

31ef059a1eeb795f5efb81359db2609d.jpg

Front headlining redone in stretch carpet.

874e5c7b1cce1d94392c7066def1fcef.jpg

Headlining complete including touch style down lighters.

ec95ec85a8e7c7d8eace8126f4a47c06.jpg

And that’s it. I’ve got a few little jobs before going camping but they can wait a week or so. I just want to get some miles on it and make sure it’s reliable.

MOT passed.

I’m going to have a few weeks off doing s**t with cars. Need a break for the motivation.

This does need

Windows tinting in the rear.
Curtains for the rear
Roof rack modified to make it nicer.
Rear bike rack painted
Something done with the dash. Paint or maybe flock it.
Something done with the steering wheel.
Double din / apple car play stereo.

But it can all wait. I’ll get on with driving it with a shitty looking dash and no rear privacy and see how it goes.
