I can smell fuel when I get out of car

  Mazda3 2.2D 185BHP
Hey

every time I exit the car I can smell fuel. And each time I act like a dog and sniff it out its coming from the fuel cap.

I open the flap and the smell is mighty strong, this is still the case after I have washed the area very well.

The cap is screwed on... any idea why I can constantly smell it?

Might explain my fuel issues if it's just evaporating lol

I've just replace a fuel pipe that had split possibly due to age on my Ph1 172. I removed the pipe, cut off the damage part and tried to heat up the pipe and fit it to the connector, but it just broke apart as it was very fragile. It's worth checking you fuel line flow and return and check the fuel filter is connected (remove the pipe and then two clicks = on).

Ok mate, Will check. I do have a new Fuel filter i want to fit soon aswell. I May wait till the fuel light pops up before i do that though.
Was it an easy job? hopfully easy to do from under the car?

I think your better off setting the car on fire lol

Never seen so many threads/problems with one car!!

Its prob because i like to ask alot of questions, and when i start using a forum i tend to get ott :p

Ok.

took the wheel off, can't see or feel any cracks or splits in the plastics pipe and odd looking things attached.

no smell under it.

pressure washed the lot though as was caked in dirt so it's nice and clean.

very odd

It involves supporting the engine as the top engine mount needs to be taken off. Easy though.
