i wouldnt do it in green, ages ago i asked about having it done silver/chrome ans got shot down!! Was told the heat would cause it go wrong and bubble.

And Rhys yeah, its Arjuns car that has a colour coded one, id be after chrome though.

Thats BBs demo 172. Polished inlet manifold and colour coded cover. Looks even more mental when you see the real thing. The heat under the bonnet isnt enough to knacker the paint really. Its the exhaust manifold that causes most of it.

Nick, so u reckon it will damage the plastic bit if i do get it sprayed? Ideally i want the inlet jobs polished (like above) and the cover chromed.

Well I dont think Ive ever seen teh exhaust manifold on a 172 its so well hidden. In fact youd be hard pressed to find the engine! But no, the paint should be fine. As long as you put on a proper plastic primer, then the paint then lacquer I cant see a problem. The top of the engine bay doesnt get that hot. How would you get the plastic cover chromed then?

air powered polishers?! Where in the name OF FECK, will i get one of those? and a polishing wheel? would a dremel work?

thats why i am gonna try source some.....sav people the work, and buying the equipment......and for 35-40 quid.......a nice mirror finish OR satin finish is yours.

sorry, bit confusng...i travel back and forth ALOT and i live in Bristol when i am in the UK which is about 70% of the time.

i see, would u polish the one on the car or is this some kind of exchange jobbie? Call me sad but i wouldnt want another peice of another 172 in the engine

Actually that chrome spray stuff (PLasticote) from Halfords is pretty good. I reckon as long as you got the engine cover bit totally flat and smooth youd get a good finish that would look like metal.

  320d M Sport

that was the plan nick! i used it on my (ahem) saxo. Just need to somehow do the metal bits.....dont have fancy polishers or anythin, just elbow grease and Auotosol

yup, if you want to send me yours, i can polish it......but im planning to do exhange.

If you send my yours, cause i cant do it on the car, then itll take about a day from the date i recieve it.....then back off to you.

I think itll look great without the cover on......but i can also do a rough or smooth satin finish which actually looks very sexy!
