I hate my car!

  Clio 172 phase 1
Let's be honest guys who feels the same mechanically ( other than engine mounts and brakes ) who hates theirs? Mines a piece of crap it's all rattaly and Even with the back stripped its rattaly and s**t I literally have had to remove parts because they just break and rattle and everything on them just seems to fall apart and then when I've fixed one this something else brakes..... It's nuts this "cheap" track ready runabout has cost me about 4k now :( wish if kept my fiesta st and put some more money into that.... Recent alarm issues have caused me to literally rip both alarm boxes out the car and the sensors im gutted ill
never but another French car again can't wait till the next track day hopefully it'll end up in the tyre wall!

  172 Track Car
I go through stages... I think it's just me getting old. I look at all the Mercs in the car park at work and just think "I wonder what it's like starting a journey knowing you'll finish it..."

  SEAT Ibiza 1.8t FR
Depends on you reason for owning a car imo. I've currently got a SEAT Ibiza, and am going to a Clio 182 which will cost half the value of the Ibiza and be slower because I find it boring to drive, even with 210bhp+.

  2004 1.5 DCi 100
I'm finding mine very "needy". There's always something needing attention. Just sorted the dodgy heater blower and still on the to do list is the EGR valve and rear disks and pads. But I do love driving this car. It's like a high maintenance French mistress, a great ride that needs a lot of upkeep ;)

Just to be clear, you've stripped half the interior from your car, and you're now complaining that it's noisy?

  Clio 172 phase 1
I'm complaining that It rattled loads so being more track focused I thought f**k it and stripped it .... And even with no panels it still rattles and it's just that French car rattle noise they all seem to have ( road noise isn't the bother here ) it's just all put together like cheese and crackers.... I've come to realise people buy these to track because they know that eventually theyll
have to srip it bear or they'll commit suicide because of the poor needy build quality that is a French car .... Even with old fords I've had theve been crap but still just soo much love.... It's a s**t feeling putong the key in the ignition and going please start please start please alarm don't go off and trap me in the car like the other morn and then in the afternoon at the petrol station .... Or please when I drive home don't suddenly start the alarm going .... French s**t
fling and

sounds like you need to return it to standard and sell. The only thing that rattles on mine is the dephaser pulley but I'm not bothered one bit I actually think its awesome car for what it cost me. I enjoy driving my clio more than cars 50x its value sometimes lol.

Going from a 2008 nice tidy car to this that is fine in the summer as a rag around to something u drive every day it's s**t it's fast enuf for what it is but it's still crap..... Think once the insurance is up its time to get s**t and buy a focus rs :)

TBH I don't really remember my Clio suffering from too many rattles. Yeah it felt like it was made from tracing paper, but it was actually very reliable. I had it five years and it cost me nothing apart from consumables and servicing.

Yeah they are a bit crap I suppose, but then mine cost £12k brand new, so I think I got pretty good value for money. The dealerships on the other hand...

I love the cheapness factor for me it's a great run about car that I can throw about and not care less if the engine pops or I bend it. The cars are worth more in parts now anyways. Parts are so cheap as well I could get a second hand engine for 100 quid lol.

Out of the god knows how many clio's i've owned in 10 years, I have only ever had one breakdown and that was a snapped throttle cable. So even then I still managed to drive it to the garage.

I think people need to possibly look at how they inspect a car prior to buying it. There are 000's of shitters out there and the days of people properly maintaining their cars are long gone! If you buy a shitter, it will bite you in the ass.

Mines cost me a fortune but I'm hoping after the engine mounts then that will be it. I've spent the time and money trying to get it mechanically sound. If something else occurs after the mounts its 100% going and a focus 1.6 will take its place.

Purely because when I move out I'll have no money to be chucking £200 at my car every other month.

I echo the above comments, i've never actually broken down anywhere in any Clio i've had. Infact, even after 125,000 miles across four of them i reckon a misfire and the exhaust coming off is the worst thats happened.

On the whole, they're reliable provided its been looked after. Rattles aren't unreliability.

Mines been great, you look after it and it will look after you!
I couldn't have a stripped Clio as a daily.
With interior the rattles aren't even that bad.

Mines never asked for anything more than tyres, pads and disks and the occasional spring. Both clios have been fantastic compared to the fiesta I started with.

Kinda. Got it new sold it after five years to a mate and brought it back. Had loads of quikish cars but the cup is the only one I regretted selling.
There is a thread on here about it.

Both of my clios have been the most reliable cars I have owned. Both have been brand new but oh my god do they rattle. I have never had any mechanical failures with either in 4 years of ownership.

  Lots of Scrap...
mine have all been fine bar the silly modified one, the standard williams'172's/182's have all been great and only expenditure bar servicing etc has been small mods, never repairs really.

  330Ci cab
i had mine for 2 years, loved it, nothing broke on it, or rattled for that matter.

got rid for a 330 because the only thing i couldnt live with was the seat being too high

I work as a mechanic in a non franchised independent garage and we work on all makes and models of vehicles but most of our time is spent with French manufactures. That said, I say 90% of the time the only reason I can find why we repair these cars so often is because people see how cheap these cars go for compared to the equivalent model of a different non-French manufacturer and realise majority of the time they can have the same amount of toys and gadgets on their car for half the price in some cases. Couple that with if someone sees a shitter going cheap with no service history to show the maintenance has NOT been kept up then it hasn't had the best life and its going to be an unreliable shitter!
Basically you buy a bottom of the budget french car with little to no history then expect nothing less than reliability problems... Spend a little extra for a maintained/looked after example then all you need to worry about is general wear/tear of daily use.

I have owned my Ph2 172 for 2.5years now and apart from tyres/belts/servicing I haven't had 1 problem with my little French car!

That's my personal opinion anyway, Some people may disagree but that's their opinion.

Get shot of it then there is nothing worse than driving a car you don't like

Had my Clio a year now its had its low points which were just cosmetic niggles my brother bought one new in 2002 had it near 3 years and was sound

Think OP has just lost their head..

Probably bought from Birmingham with no history and clocked from 175,000 miles down to 75,000 for a bargin price ;)

Damn french cars!

(I have owned 6 french cars and never sent 1 to the garage for anything other than servicing!)

Actually I bought it with a stack of recipts from it's very first mot the lot and original finance agreement it's been well looked after it's just French s**t lets be honest there just poo time to get a real car

  RB Clio 182
I have been very surprised with my clio after reading all the "its french" comments with it been my 1st french car, i have had it a year in three days time (halloween) and it has been the most reliable car i have ever owned, the only thing i have had to change is the tyres, its never broke, nothing has failed and i havnt had a single niggle!

I am seriously amazed and it shows you if you drop on a good one you will be fine.

The clio was only going to be a short term car, but i have no intentions of getting rid, it hasnt cost me anything.

Another thing is that i dont find it rattly at all inside, i cant hear any rattles apart from when i have more than one cd case in the glovebox.

Hey don't stereotype Birmingham! ;)

Lol at the fact it has all of its MOT certificates.
Sell up then if you aren't happy, I bet you'll miss the thing like most on here, and maybe even buy one again!
