I need new altinater

I think it has gone as it dopes below 12.5 volts when everything is turned on eg lights wipers .

Went to renault to get a price and they quoted me £155 including fitting! Anyone know where i can buy them from apart from renault?

Plus is this a common thing that goes wrong with them?

£155 sounds fair to me.

Its not really a common issue as such, but like everything parts like these dont last for ever.

you can buy an Alternator from Motor World

however for £155 fitted id go for that mate

only problem is they cant fit me in untill 12th of december!

not a hard job, bonnet, offside headlamp and if need be the slam panel off.

Once off you can take the alt off and replace it with room.

check the for sale forum , Paul16v has one for sale about £30 !! fit it your self , or a garage will only charge 1-2 hours labour ?

yea but i want a new one with garentees and that and it also looks better on the service history if all done by renault and brought from there too

as benR says its not that difficult, keep the reciept for buying alternator, but dont get renault to fit it. its fairly easy to remove slam panel, radiator and headlamp, and you then have loads of space. 7mm allenkey to loosen center of tensioner, turn outside nut to relieve tension. Unbolt the two 10mm bolts on lower timing belt cover, pop off, put new belt on, tension and then put cover, haedlamp etc back in. Time consuming but not difficult

my cousin said she will fit it 2morrow now so well happy now she is a mechanic and said it wont be to difficult

Its not a easy job. Only need to take the head light out and jack the engine up a bit. Ive changed mine bout 4 times!!!
